It seems like runs are up in baseball this year

Have no proof, but scores seen to be consistently over 5 runs. Of course we have many dominating pitchers, but I mean overall. I'm more than okay if the good hitting teams average 5 to 5.5 runs a game.

Baseball reference says 4.3 per game so far compared to last year's 4.2.

Thanks for the info. That's still a little low. We really need to get most teams to around 5 imo.

Pitchers should stop trying to be good.

Yes, because that's the only way to get runs up. You haven't followed baseball close very long if not at all. You do realize they had a time when pitchers dominated more than they are now. What did they do? Lower the mound. I'm not saying lower the mound, but they have things they can do.

We should just let the talent decide what the game looks like instead of trying to regulate it to produce a certain score and product. There's incredible young talent in baseball right now both on the mound and in the field, don't change shite and see what comes out.

Then what is your suggestion?

I believe the strike zone has expanded over the past few years. Not the rulebook zone, but what is actually called. Especially low. I'm fine with baseball as it is now, but if they wanted more runs/less strikeouts, a tighter, more textbook zone would probably help.

We should revert back to 19th century rule of playing until one team scores 21. That would increase scoring.

Gotta be the first time in a while where the AL ERA is less than the NL.

Probably a combo of the 3 best teams in baseball being in the NL, along with all the bottom feeders being there as well.

MLB won't confirm it, but there's been rumors for a while that the umps have been calling a bigger zone. To me, the proof is in the old OBP guys (Napoli) just staring at so many strike 3's that used to be called balls.

I think that is true, and there has been talk of raising the zone, which I don't think is a bad idea. My personal suspicion is that called zone increase is the result of more fastballs being thrown, which are easier for an umpire to track and call.

I'd like to see more hitters modify their approach to increase contact rates, especially late in counts. I also wouldn't mind seeing extreme defensive shifts bunted out of existence.

The Braves are doing their best to stop this.

Use the DH in both leagues... runs will go up.

Expand to 32 teams, I bet runs will go up. (I would assume that thinning out the talent will have a bigger effect on the MLB-level starting pitching than it will on the hitting, but I could be wrong...")

I used to hate the DH. I don't think I do anymore.

Strick zone and moving fences in are two quick ones. If they wanted to do something radical they could adjust bats.
