i believe we will be the 5th or 6th most nationally televised team this year

If you don't pay Kobe a third of your cap space, you can make legitimate runs at players that can make you a playoff level basketball team the last two offseasons. If Pau stays, he's a perfectly serviceable 2nd or 3rd banana for a contender.

Being on TV doesn't make you relevant. Its like the Cowboys fans who claim the status of being relevant by virtue of being on TV.

The Schadenfreude factor of Laker basketball this year will be very high-- which is sad, for what should and could be a relevant team.

What's his contract?

The Mets bought out the remaining $5.9 mil on his contract, but they deferred the payments until 2011 at 8% interest.

Startin in 2011 he receives $1.19 mil annually for 25 years. By 2035 the Mets will have paid him something like $58 mil.

no we couldnt have. because no one who could actually get us into the playoffs was going to touch this franchise because of the front office

Circular logic, there. 'No one was going to touch us, because of a front office mess-- but not the part where they signed Kobe to arguably the worst contract in basketball. THat part was cool. It was everything else that was bad'

No. Being relevant means being able to win big, having legitimate aspirations to play deep into the playoffs.

The Spurs are relevant, even if there isn't anyone interesting to interview, or turnover or turmoil; it doesn't matter how often they do or don't appear on TV.
Substance matters.

The Lakers are a side-show, which is sad. The League is better when the Lakers are better.

so what youre saying is now that kobes contract is coming off the books this year, that the lakers will sign a big free agent like kevin durant?
