Is there such a thing as a false start for a kicker?

I don't know the ruling on that but that Michigan kicker started early.

A false start penalty possibly saved Oregon’s season. Trailing No. 1 Oregon 15-13, Cal kicker Giorgio Tavecchio hit a 24-yard field goal that would have given the Golden Bears a 16-15 lead but it was negated by a false start committed by Tavecchio. Cal lined up for a 29-yard field goal on the next play and missed it. Oregon held on to win 15-13.

He would just have to hit it from 5 more yards out

he did the same thing on the kick that was botched at the end of the half that ended w/ the lineman catching the tip. also, he tackled a va tech defender on the play.
