They should of amnestied Perkins and paid Harden, and Ibaka. But, if it came down to keeping Ibaka or Harden, I understand why they kept Ibaka over him. Not saying Ibaka is a better player than Harden or whatever, but he brings something to the OKC team that they lacked and sorely needed.
If that's true, then why in the world did they trade for Kevin Martin and Jeremy Lamb?

Why not get a player that fits their team better?

For them to provide the scoring punch that is required off the bench, but at a much cheaper cost, while maintaining a frontline that can defend some of the talented western conference PF's and Centers.

Because Lamb and Martin are way cheaper than Harden. And Martin is a great shooter, and Lamb is extremely young but has a great shot.

I think them letting Martin go was a mistake too.

It is a hard one. It would have never happened in LA or NY. So you have to give them some points for that.

It was a hard one because at the time, he was a sixth man. He went from being a sixth man to the sixth best player in the NBA (give or take).

They should have amnestied Perkins and figured it out but the small market thing does hurt so it really isn't fair.

I've said for a long time I liked Harden more than Westbrook. Westbrook reminds me of Steve Francis. If he loses burst, then he isn't great at anything. Harden doesn't rely on athleticism the same way. I thought a few years ago that they should have traded Westbrook for tons of picks and then drafted early because Westbrook can't carry a team.

That being said, because it was salary driven by money it can't be the worst of all time. OKC can't compete with LA and NYC.

Dont buy the salary cap BS, OKC could have made it work. Owners were being cheap.

Well that's just wrong.

It's unbelievable that they didn't just amnesty Perkins and replace him with a Robin Lopez or Jermaine O'Neal type of player.

Still couldn't have afforded to pay Harden what he wanted.

Martin made 12 million last year. The trade is indefensible to me.

They weren't that far off the max. They could have figured out a way to keep him. That being said with KD and Westbrook, then you should be able to get enough role players to win. So it really could be worse.

Well people think with their passion and not with the reality of business.

They weren't going to pay him what he was looking for (max) and stay under the luxury. That's true even if they had replaced an amnestied Perkins with a vet minimum guy.

How is it wrong? The owners paid $325m for the team. It's worth at least $500m now. There are people out there that would pay much more than that to own the team. Their revenues have been high. I don't see how it is anything but the owners being cheap.

Yea they could afford the $12m for a year or 2. Couldnt long term. And they knew they couldnt either. Which is why they got Lamb along with Martin. Martin was the starter, but Lamb is the young rookie with potential.

How is avoiding the luxury tax not the owners being cheap?

Simmons was saying today the Harden trade will result in like $10 million extra profit for the OKC owners.

Simmons has had a hard-on for hating OKC ever since the team left Seattle*.

So you throw away a finals team with room to improve for what reason again? It's not like the deal they got was too good to pass up.
