I think it will be fine.

Two days ago I came across the "Four Falls of Buffalo" episode and thoroughly enjoyed it. Traditionally I wouldn't have blinked twice about a documentary on the early 1990s Bills, but I gave it a shot because of 30 for 30's rep.

The only way 30 for 30 falls by the wayside is if they keep doing shite like the Miami and USC shows.

There will always be stories to tell. I can't wait for a Saints Katrina one or one that explains to me how a team loses 21-0 in a National Championship Game to a team they already beat.

One that would be really interesting is an real investigation into a possible MJ suspension for gambling.

I guess you haven't watched "Jordan rides the bus". The entire show is not dedicated to his gambling but it does address it and the rumors.

Don't get your point. Also don't get the downvoting.

I am saying I absolutely love the shows and asking a simple question. I hope they stay compelling. It's better than all the reality crap out there now.

There's starting to be a predictable over-emphasis on New York City and shameless ratings grabs/revisionist history like Miami, Fab Five and USC.

I loved most of the originals but I pick and choose now. It's already no longer complete appointment television.

I was just fricking with you.

I'm sure when ESPN/Disney starts focusing them on the WNBA and courageous cross dressers, they will lose their appeal here.

Any documentary is only going to be as good as its subject, and the footage it has available.

No, I do not think sports documentaries will grow tiresome. The ESPN branded series may run out of good ideas eventually, but there will always be a market for these stories.

This is pretty much how I feel as well. Some are either fanboy pet projects (the U, Four Days in October) or a revisionist reclamation project driven by the athlete in question (the Boz, Marinovich Project, Fab Five, Trojan War).

Also, it's amazing to me that despite ESPN's rich history with the sport, their college football-focused 30 for 30 docs have been almost comprehensively weak. Roll Tide/War Eagle, Pony Excess, Ghosts of Ole Miss, Trojan War, Brian and the Boz, and both U's were all either terribly done or extremely myopic.

The U acted as if Miami happened in a vacuum while completely ignoring the simultaneous (and similar) rises of FSU and Florida in the late 80s and early 90s.

Trojan War painted USC to be this unbeatable dynasty when they in fact won 1 National Championship and played in a horror show of a conference.

Brian and the Boz was such a transparent reclamation project, and everything from Bosworth's acting and fake crying to the scenes in the storage shed was absurd. It was like a bad movie on cable.

I will forever maintain that Roll Tide/War Eagle is the worst sports documentary I've ever seen, and I'm an Arkansas fan and thus have no dog in the proverbial Iron Bowl fight. Wright Thompson took a century-old blood rivalry with legendary coaches, players and games and dumbed it down to Finebaum, Updyke and Cam Newton.

Not for me. Some of the stories I'm not interested in or the personalities involved turn me off, but mostly I'm riveted.

Couldn't agree more. I was interested in watching the history of that series and was extremely disappointed in what they showed.

Everybody knows wrestling is fake, but the shoot interviews online bring out a TON of info that doesn't make it to TV. I think 30 for 30 could be similar.

It is the one great thing ESPN does outside of actual sports broadcasting.

Reggie Miller vs New York was great

I like all the NBA ones

when 30/30 started it was based around "off the beaten path" sports stories

now i completely understand that as they do more, there will be fewer stories to tell

and i also understand that it takes time for some stories to become ripe (like the duke lacrosse one) and it's not "off the beaten path" but since it's just now able to be told, they get the first bite of the apple

but straw/gooden? that story has been told 100x

the magic one was solid, but not close to being great or anything

the one about cleveland is borderline, but i personally have no interest in watching. same with FIVE docs about OJ

the 1985 bears episode is probably the shark-jumping moment

The buffalo one was great amd sucked ha. and while cleveland gets the present day aw poor people title the sabres losing in finals in the crease adds to that towns misery.

I really enjoyed majority

There are still plenty of those, but unfortunately quite a few people on this board and elsewhere think stories like the Miami Hurricanes are better than The Two Escobars, so the business side of ESPN is going to put more effort there.

All in all, if they keep the quality of the documentary up, then I'll still watch the popular stories.

i enjoyed the hell out of the duke one

the magic one was cute. it was like a 6.5/10. nostalgia played a factor. like many, i was a big magic dickrider back then, when i first started watching the NBA regularly. i had a penny jersey

like others have said, they don't do a great job with the CFB ones (i did enjoy pony excess though)

and i personally don't have much interest in the NFL ones for some reason

That's my whole New York Myopia issue. The 86 Mets were the biggest bunch of assholes/scumbags in the history of baseball (Dykstra/Straberry/Hernandez/Mitchell/Ojeda/Backman). But the narrative with the team is that they were "colorful and dynamic," or "poor Doc and Straw couldn't handle their own greatness." Same with the Walt Frazier Knicks. They won two titles and they act like it was Basketball Camelot (not to mention the mandatory 30/30 documentary)
