Maybe the other teams shouldn't have lost to inopportune opponents either, plus LSU being Alabama's sole loss logically produced that BCS title matchup considering how good LSU was that year as the sole undefeated team in America. Bama gamed the system and succeeded, the other squads fricked up its that simple.

What does that have to do with anything? It's about how Alabama manipulated the BCS system to their advantage whereas others didn't by losing to clearly inferior teams at inopportune times, Alabama's one loss to the undefeated number one team in America was inarguably better than the others' losses and that proved the difference in deciding the BCS title game matchup.

The answer is 1941 Bama and even they will admit that

They were 9-2 and ranked 20 in the ap poll yet they claim national champions

Amd they were still the most deserving team that season. You and others seem to have trouble comprehending this

So you are saying that the Oklahoma State loss to Iowa State didn't can't as much or something?

It probably meant more bc Iowa State was clearly inferior to Oklahoma State that season and, by virtue of OSU's undefeated season at that point, OSU would've played LSU in New Orleans had they preserved the undefeated season. Logic being: 2 undefeated teams from separate power 5 conferences, rewarding teams that win their games in lieu of losing with tough SOS'. In the end, it didn't matter that OSU was from a separate conference and had one loss bc they took a rankings' beating post hoc and that was reflected in their BCS rankings as opposed to Bama's BCS shortfall which was basically non-existent after losing to the no. 1 team in America in one of the season's most exciting games. Point is, it matters who you lose to if playing in a context with a plethora of 1 loss teams competing for a BCS title game berth.

I just have no clue while y'all retroactively decided to claim it. It taints all of yalls claims. Honestly, all your other claims are legit, but 1941 is such a joke it makes people question your whole list

Only unbeaten and Bama is winner of this question

Don't blame BYU for something they didn't have control of

Who cares if they were unbeaten. Boise State was unbeaten in 2009. Utah unbeaten in 2004. Marshall unbeaten in 1999. Tulane unbeaten in 1998.

BYU played in the crappy WAC...every other team in their conference had at least 4 losses!

Washington's only loss was 16-7 to #9 USC and Washington beat #2 Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl.

There is no need to discuss this

It is 1941 Bama

They were 9-2 with losses to miss state and Vandy

Miss state itself finished 8-1-1 and won the sec

There were countless 1 loss teams and Minnesota was undefeated

They finished 20 in the ap

Yet, they claim the national championship

There was zero justification for that team being in the BCS Championship Game.

Obviously people who mattered more than you disagreed.

Their mission statement was also to put the two best teams into the championship game, not the two "most deserving" teams.

What year did they go back and claim it?

And hopefully one day the powers at be will unclaim it.

Alabama is the only team in the NCAA who recognizes that title. We're talking real national championships here. Not national titles awarded by the university to make itself look better.

Who was #1 going into the Bowl season?
Who was only unbeaten untied team in Division 1-A?
Who didn't win their conference?

In defense of that BYU team they didn't get the opportunity to prove themselves in a big time bowl matchup because of bowl tie-ins.

That really sucks that they played in the Holiday Bowl.

BYU did not play a single team who finished the season ranked in the top 20.

And that Michigan team that BYU beat? From 1968 to 2007, only one Michigan team finished without a winning record. 1984 Michigan.
