This isn't on Goodell.
This is just a backlash from the public after years of hearing how the NFL has gotten so big and makes so much money.
It is just the build up, tear down mentality we have as a society.
Now the lynch mob mentality has taken hold and the NFL has to hunker down and endure it until the public gets bored of it and decides to move on.
Whole thing is silly. The NFL is chocked full of large violent men and Goodell has probably been the most draconian and harsh commish in the history of sports when it comes to player discipline.
Again, this is just a lynch mob and herd mentality that has turned against the NFL for the moment and will pass in a few weeks or a month.

we'll have to disagree. We do have that mentality but that's not what is happening here.

He has done a good enough job not to frick it up unlike MLB
I disagree; Greed was the undoing of MLB popularity. Baseball began a steady decline after the cancellation of the WS in 1994. Fans finally said, "just frick baseball". Greed, as pointed out by Cuban, is responsible for the current situation created by Goodell and the owners. Goodell looks like an ineffective liar to America and that isn't good for the brand no matter how popular the sport. When your major sponsors call you out as CEO, that is a bad look.
There is a 10% decrease in pee wee football activities across America, probably because Moms read the reports of brain trauma associated with football and how Goodell lied like a dog when he testified about it before Congress. Now Congress wants to involve itself in the current situation. Frickin Congress. Yeah, he is great.

I credit Goodell for trying to police the league and if nothing else he has exposed the things that the NFL has turned a blind eye too.
With that said, he is embarrassing the league and himself because he is not handling these situations in the right way. He reminds me of Emmert with the NCAA.
They both are trying to tackle these issues but in the process are making fools of themselves and the league and the players.
There is no easy solution to some of these issues but stop embarrassing the league and start handling the cases but the NFL needs to adopt a committee to have several layers to address these issues going forward

His organization has become a joke and he has lost all control. What a PR nightmare the NFL is going through. All he has to do is come up with a system to discipline/fine players that is consistent and fair, and for that get gets paid $44M/year, but he has failed miserably. I hope the owners kick his arse to the curb.
I can't stand that smug SOB; however, it's too bad the[link=( https://www.redstate.com/2014/09/16/nfl-hotbed-wife-child-beaters/)]FACTS[/link] don't support the current media portrayal of what is happening.

Is Roger Goodell the worst 'CEO' currently in America?
LOL. He has 100% backing from the owners. Every single owner backs him.

Other than Goodell royally fricking the Saints on bountygate, I don't really have a bunch of problems with him. What makes you guys think anyone else will be better? The commissioner is only a puppet to the owners and other outside influences, all of which would still exist with any other commissioner.

Until Goodell stops handling all these things by himself he will continue to step on landmines. They need to comprehensively look at how to go about meting out discipline going forward. Take a committee approach to it and stop putting all the burden on yourself to right every wrong.

Wrong on both counts. You probably complain that officials have "lost all control" of a game too, when players start getting a bunch of unsportsmanlike penalties

I think the NFLs craven response (led by Goodell) to irrefutable scientific data on brain trauma and concussions associated with the NFL made a very negative impression with moms, who in turn have encouraged their kids to take up other, less dangerous sports. Goodell obfuscating before Congress is part of the picture.

I don't think it has anything to do with the commissioner of the NFL. I think it is due solely to the brain studies.

Well, maybe.
But he's also CEO of a company where all the VPs are only lightly educated, rebellious and frequently from impoverished backgrounds with some bad news friends. They're also hounded by the press regularly.

A CEO's job is to make money, not to make his company look nice. If he does care at all about his company looking nice, it's in context of making more money.
Sure, but his/her job is also to protect the brand so the company continues to make money.
Think of the CEO of BP, for instance. BP makes a lot of money, right? Well when the oil spill occurred, it was a huge financial hit to the company AND a PR nightmare. BP parted ways with their CEO because the mistake, whether it was his fault or not, was bad for business, and the face of the business had to go. Not only did Goodell screw up the Ray Rice decision, but the potential loss of sponsor revenue is bad for the team individually and league as a whole. If the league starts losing money, Goodell is expendable. Hell he's already expendable. The NFL will keep on truckin regardless of who is in charge, so why have a guy that could potentially damage the brand as the face of the league?
