Basketball title is the hardest, and the most flawed way to win a title, Have 5 (3, whatever) titles and absolutely dominating a good basketball conference for over a decade is amazing in itself.

All it takes is one bad game and all of sudden everyone thinks you suck.

Agreed. For as amazing as the NCAA tournament/march madness is, it's the absolute worst way to crown a champion.

I also strongly dislike Kansas basketball but in no way are they over-rated. Very tough to win 6 straight against really solid competition. March Madness is brutal.

They are on of the very few teams that will be in contention every year.

You know what's stupid? People would look at Self as a better coach if he lost double digit games, was an 8 seed, and won 4 games instead of 3 in the tournament. It shouldn't be that way.

Shut the frick up. There isn't a single KU fan in the world that wouldn't trade the streak for a national title.

I don't doubt that and obviously I was being egregious, but since a national title has been nowhere close to achievable since 2012, the fall back is 11,12,13 straight blah blah blah. That streak is certainly under appreciated, but nobody outside of Lawrence really gives a shite.

Big XII is part of problem as well.
Kansas only has two titles since 88 and the only titles from either conference Big 8 or Big XII even if you go back to 1988 when they were in the Big 8.

Since 1988 SEC has 6 NCAA National Champions and will probably get another this year.

They need to move to Big 10 or something and get some regular season competition.

They have won the conference for like 12 straight years.... BUT they rarely deliver in the post season... Bill self is 2-7 in the elite 8 and are always a 1 or 2 seed.

The comparison to Bob Stoops is uncanny. 11 1st place finishes in the Big 12, 2 championship game appearances, 1 championship..

Can we apply this to Alabama as well when counting their mythical football titles?

It wouldn't just be Alabama. Basically anyone who retroactively claimed a title. shite, USC went back in and claimed 1939 during the Carroll years. Michigan has like 6 of 'em.

KU is coddled in the Big 12 by refs, especially at home. That's why they get exposed every year in the NCAA Tournament

Yes, we have been nothing better that decent in the past five years due to one of the poorest offensive coaching jobs in SEC history.

I'm not sure why things haven't translated to as much postseason success as they would like though.

I heard a theory once that Bill Self gets really tight in tournament games and his teams follow his lead. Not sure how true it is but it makes sense

Yes, because we've been so terrible in OOC games

If Chalmers doesn't hit that 3, Bill Self may be looked at much differently

And if anyone's aunt had a dick, they'd be their uncle

If villanova doesn't hit a magic 3, Roy Williams would have 3

Love the woulda coulda shoulda game

No, just stop it. Winning the NCAA tournament is hard as frick and rarely does the real best team win. One and done is hard as hell and winning six straight is a nightmare. If these were series like the NBA, Kansas would have a couple more under Self. How many current coaches have more than one title?

It goes both ways. You can argue it's harder to win when you're the best team, but you're also going to have more opportunities to win when you aren't the best.

Well that's part of the discussion here. Kansas is nearly always one of the best, so it screws them.

Overrated, no

But they underachieve in the tourny worse than any Tier 1 team since Bill Self arrival in Lawrence..he's always had loaded teams whi were more than capable to make a run in the tourny

may not be true still, but pretty sure kansas has the most tourney wins in CBB since self's arrival. only reason they "underachieve" is because of how good of a regular season team they always are. he is a victim of his own success in that regard.

self has a .700+ tourney win % right in line with tom izzo (better % yesterday afternoon and now slightly worse) and one is looked at as a choker and one is looked at as a march god.
