You can't be surprised if anyone beats anyone in a one-game series... even if it was the Phils vs the Dodgers.

He was acquired in May, I believe.

Doyle Alexander

11 starts, 9-0, 1.57 ERA

This thread is now closed.

And yes, I know the Braves won the trade.

Based on individual production, yes, of course it is.

But from a team accomplishment standpoint, only time will tell as the playoffs play out.

I was so heartbroken over the trade, Mel Hall was my second favorite Cub on that team behind Sandberg, and you could just look at Joe Carter and you could tell he was going to be a stud.

Doyle Alexander to the Tigers is probably the correct answer, but I want to throw Doug Fister into the mix from when he was traded from the Mariners to the Tigers. He went 8-1 with a 1.79 ERA in 10 starts.

All that matters is what he does in the playoffs

If we're talking actual deadline trades (not Doyle Alexander or Rick Sutcliffe), Cesar Cedeno to Cardinals from Reds in 1985 for a minor leaguer that never got out of A ball is a good one. Cedeno hit .434/.463/.750 with 6 homers in 28 September games.

Martinez tough to beat though.

Manny Ramirez or cespedes to the mets. Doyle alexander is irrlavant, the tigers would have finished with the best record overall regardless and they gave away a hall of famer to get him

didn't Carlos Beltran basically carry the Astros to NLCS when he got traded from KC?

Kind of Apples and Oranges. Beltran had literally one of the best postseasons ever, Martinez has had an insane 2nd half but not even there yet. Complexion of discussion could obviously change a lot if Martinez dips a lot in playoffs.
