Or do they just run a clean, exemplary program, and there is no whiff of trouble?

Roy has evaded them for the most part.

Pitino has to be on like his 7th or 8th life.

I don't think they need to cheat TBH
The only thing that tripped them up was his anti-one and done stance. Since he changed his tune they get pretty much whomever they want.

Same thing will Coach Cal. Why would he need to cheat now? He picks his starters directly off the McDonald's AA team and sends them to the first round. What would cheating do for him?

Easier for a private school to hide stuff.

They aren't untouchable from federal investigations if they find anything.

There has been some shady stuff in the past. People always go with Maggette but that is a bad example. The Vivian Harper/Chris Duhon situation is a much better one but Coach K was enough steps removed to claim plausible deniability.

Tbh, I think the biggest reason that the team hasn't gotten in trouble is from the demographic they recruit. When you have damn near half of your guys be the sons of former NBA players/coaches/execs or former college players who got good jobs in college and sent their kids to private school, then there is no need to offer money to players.

Off the top of my head, Bobby Hurley, Danny Ferry, Gerald Henderson, Chris Collins, Gary Trent Jr, Mike Dunleavy Jr, Jeff Capel, Justise Winslow, Tre Jones, Tyus Jones, Grant Hill, Kyrie Irving, Dahntay Jones, Lee Melchionni, Shavlik Randolph, Kyle Sinlger, Nolan Smith, and Jayson Tatum all fit that description and I'm definitely missing plenty of people.

And then there are your stereotypical white private school kids (Ryan Kelly, the Plumlees, Jay Bilas, Mark Alarie, Brian Zoubek, etc) but those aren't as numerous as people think.

It's amazing what has happened at UNC the past decade. Roy is truly the last man standing. Provost, football coach, chancellor, university president all resigned.

If Arizona, Louisville, and other top tier programs get serious penalties, there will be expectations of UNC getting similar punishment as well. So far I have been amazed at the NCAA's passivity in all of this.

NCAA profiles...like cops, they only sniff where they think there is a probability of maximizing their snooping.

Which is why Auburn, Alabama, Miami, Texas schools, etc. always garner attention of malfeasance.

If you have a huge history of cheating like the above schools - you will be targeted.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

They don't even look at Duke...Duke could go Baylor and the NCAA wouldn't even know about it.

Because most of the scandal started while he was at Kansas. Roy walked into this mess ongoing. None of the guys he specifically recruited went through these "altered" degree curriculums.

Has the NCAA ever investigated Stanford, Harvard, Duke, Yale, Cal, Northwestern?

Didn't the "paper classes" continue until 2011 or so? I remember there was a really detailed list of students at large and athletes that were in the classes over the years.

It's been a while since I've seen it though. I do remember the classes started around 1990 but had tiny numbers at first.

That was almost entirely the football program.

Rashad McCants was literally the only UNC basketball player caught up in the scandal and the only reason he came out and ran his mouth is because A) he was cut from the NBA and had no money, and B) because he's an unstable guy.

There are plenty of stories of McCants being quite anti-social during his unc years and just being a weird dude towards his teammates.

This is the same guy that likened being at UNC and practicing basketball to "being like prison".

Roy did not like McCants. He was recruited by Doherty and Roy coached him his last 2 years at UNC. Very good college player though.

Call me ignorant or naive, but I just don't really think that duke, Kansas, Kentucky are cheating on the recruiting trail these days. They simply don't have to. Everyone else is playing catch up to those 3

Duke are cheaters, from illegally recruiting kids to changing GPA requirements for basketball players only they're as dirty as it gets and coach K is a beedie eyed scumbag.

It depends on how far the FBI pushes it and who flips.
