Is CFB headed towards a Bama-OSU rivalry?

They've already played in the playoffs once. They're the favorites to win and matchup for the national title this year. They have, far and away, the two best coaches in the sport. They are the last two national title winners currently.

OSU is a young team, that will likely be the preseason favorite next year. Bama is Bama, they will reload. They have the top recruiting class each year, dating back to 2014 (next year's senior class). OSU is also about to sign perhaps the greatest class of prospects ever.

These two programs have separated themselves from the rest of the country. As long as Saban continues coaching, it feels like we could be in the early stages of a 5 year pseudo-rivalry.

ETA: I'm not sure rivalry is the right word, since they don't play every year. But I don't know what else to call it. Say Bama wins the natty this year and OSU next. What would you call that?

Aside from wanting LSU to beat Bama, I would also. It's a kind of cool scenario to witness. It's like the CFB equivalent of Cavs-Warriors, except it's 50 times harder for 2 CFB teams to separate themselves as such for an extended period of time, compared to in the NBA.

True. But Clemson would need a national title first, and I think they're the worst team in the playoffs this year. Just my opinion.

If they continue to meet in the playoffs, I guess this would be more comparable to the Lakers-Celtics rivalry.

Even though they play each other in the regular season, weren't rivals due to conference or location, but they were rivals due to their frequent match-up in the Finals.

My only question is how long does Urban coach at OSU? I know that he is young, but I don't think there can be any confidence that he coaches OSU long term. Maybe I am overly worried, but is OSU his last stop?

Unless he wants to coach in the NFL? Which if he wanted, he could've done years ago. He isn't leaving to coach anywhere else in CFB- I don't think there's any real cause for concern of him leaving.

Somebody on here got destroyed for a thread whining about how Saban is killing college football, but I kind of agreed due to the Saban/Meyer chokehold. Autistic Jim is trying to give it a shot, but I think it's going to be another 2 or 3 years for Michigan to be back at this year's level and he will probably be gone by then. Dabo is the one guy out there hanging tough. I guess there is hope on an occasional basis with the MSU wins over OSU and Ole Miss wins over Bama, but the way those programs have fallen off shows that staying on Saban and Meyer's level can't consistently be done. We just need lil Nicky to retire and Urbs to get bored.

If Meyer loses to Saban again I expect to see Meyer try and find a job at the FCS level. He needs somewhere he can overwhelm the competition.

A lot of people on this board don't even consider Bama-Florida to be a rivalry even though they've played games with huge stakes on the line many times. And the Meyer-Saban rivalry in 2008 and 2009 was far bigger than it is today.

In terms of number of starts, it was Ohio State.

Assuming that Harbaugh stays long enough, UM will have something to say about that.
