Wilkinson's winning percentage @ OU was 83%. Switzer's was 84%. Bear's @ Bama was 83%. Just counting LSU & Bama Nick is at 80%.

If I was an AD looking for a HC, I'd hire any of 'em.

Saban is not playing on a level field and its time to recognize it.Several elite coach's could be inserted in Sabans situation and do as good. bama has it locked up with the SEC office ,the ability to manipulate who will officiate games ,and the unfair advantage of the amount of people in high places with ties to bama in the sec office. A very big ASSterisk by his name. Ill say Bear. Saban doesnt even put the most players in the NFL , that would be LSU. So if he is such a great recruiter, but LSU puts more players in the NFL, that alone removes him from the goat position. What the hell is GOAT anyway, cant we just say best or whatever ,they are both 4 letters.dam

JoePa should be in the conversation. He won over 400 games on the field. The Sandusky scandal was awful but it reflects on him as a person, not as a coach.

He only had 2 national titles, but national championships are a bad metric. They were historically the opinions of assclown sportswriters. JoePa had several undefeated teams that should have been given a split title.

He was also the first coach to win all of the original Big Four bowls (Rose, Sugar, Orange, and Cotton).

He's won 5 of the big 6 now. Unless he won a Peach then he's won all 6.

I earlier mistakenly credited Stoops with first to win 5 thank you for correcting me.

Guys like Saban and Bear are obviously phenomenal football coaches, but they arent innovators really. For me, Knute Rockne and Bob Neyland, coaches who changed the game and the profession, are the best ever.

Looked it up. He never appeared in the Peach.

He made the Fiesta a major bowl. They were one of the few bowls where both spots were at-large. Miami and Penn State were both independents and both undefeated so the Fiesta matched them up.

It was supposedly a joke--Penn State didn't belong on the same field. Had Miami won big, Penn State would have been viewed as a Boise. But wiht the upset, the Fiesta became a big-time bowl.

Why would PSU have been viewed as a Boise State? They were already viewed as a NC program having won a championship in '82.

The Fiesta had already moved it's OU grab in 1982? made it a big bowl. The Fiesta in 87 was held on the 2nd and PSU was no way Boise. There was huge hype and Sunkist even sponsored it, one of the first to Sponsor a bowl in title.

Now you want to argue the Holiday and BYU in 84 that would be the better comparison.

Issue was BYU was obligated and couldn't get out of Holiday. That NCG for BYU allowed Ark ASU to play in 85 in San Diego.

Yeah, I remember the Fiesta already being a big bowl before the Miami/PSU game and PSU being a national power. The BYU analogy was definitely more on point.
