Is anyone confident the NFL will succeed in Los Angeles?

Lots of talk on the radio today that this may be the last home game for the Rams in St. Louis, but why is it just accepted that it will work this time around? I'm sure there will be an initial excitement, but once the honeymoon phase wears off, what reason is there to believe the locals will embrace one or two franchises?

To give you an idea about how bad it was last time they were there, the teams left LA for St. Louis and Oakland.

It has nothing to do with the cities, it's about the stadium deals

Only reason it failed was the blackout rule, which no longer exists. It's going to be a hit as long as he NFL exists.

It's like baseball in South Florida- too many transplants who already have teams, and too many other things to do to justify the expense of you're only a casual fan.

This. The Rams had great fan support in Los Angeles. The Raiders otoh were always seen as interlopers by half the city because we knew they'd end up back in Oakland one day. Which they did.

I think it will probably work. It is a huge market and they will have a new stadium.

And hell, if it doesn't work they will just move again. That is how pro sports works.

Eh, right now it looks like the Raiders and Chargers are sharing a stadium in Carson, and Rams are staying in STL.

Per a few owners over the last few days, they are saying Carson deal is going to be the only LA deal that would get approved.

Do you have a link for any of the chatter from the owners? I haven't seen anything about that.

I think it'll happen but I'm not confident.

Keeping the NFL out of LA has helped them out a good but. They threaten to move teams to LA and get new stadiums and subsidies in all the other markets. I think they've about tapped then out for now though.

Thanks bro. I hope they're wrong. I don't want either of those teams here.

The argument for why it will work this time around is that the NFL is 10X more popular than it was in the 80's.

It's America's Sunday religion.

That said, I have lived in L.A. and the Raiders would get 15,000 and USC would get 90,000.

The college teams fill LA's football fix.

Because in reality, LA is a total Laker town. They are on the front page of the LA Times regardless of the time of year.

And for the rest of the population - huge latino population, LA is a Dodger town.

In terms of popularity...

1. Lakers
2. Dodgers
3. USC Football
4. Clippers
5. Kings
6. UCLA basketball
7. Chivas USA
8. LA Galaxy
9. LA Derby Dolls (Women's Roller Derby)
10. UCLA Football

Meh......

If the teams are good, yea...

If the teams suck, no

LA is a front running city....watching the Lakers game tonight it sounded like they were having attendance issues.

the lakers are like 10th in home attendance percentage. pretty sure they are higher than the spurs. and thats before we go into the fact that the clippers are selling out every game. compare that to the other city with two teams. the knicks are selling out every game, but brooklyn is near the absolute bottom in attendance

USC had one game this season with over 80,000 in the stands. There were 83,602 at the UCLA game, which is 10,005 below listed capacity.

If the teams are good, the stadium will be filled with Los Angeles fans. If the teams are bad, the stadium will be filled with the visiting team's fans.

Interesting that the article cites another article saying if Kroenke does not get LA he may look into moving the team to London or possibly buying the Broncos. If the NFL owners think St. Louis puts together a good deal and they don't support a move to LA, why would they support a move to London?

It would be interesting if he bought the Broncos and sold the Rams to an investor who wanted to keep them in St. Louis (assuming such a person exists).
