I wasn't rolling my eyes because it wasn't elite...I'm rolling my eyes because it makes it sound as if Payton's influence on offense wasn't felt at all. I realize he wasn't on the sidelines calling plays, but it was still his offense and personnel. If you put Drew Brees on Kansas City last year I promise you those wouldn't be his numbers. That was a stupid argument to make

ETA that said I'm bowing out of this troll thread

I think the point is Manning RUNS the system. He has never been dependent on another coach's scheme.

It's his fault they call passing plays a lot?

The main flaw in your argument is that you're basing it on a very small sample of games that were played at the end of the season against backups.

unknownknight thinks ONE games in a players/teams career dictates everything else that will happen in the future.

how does one statpad when his team is one play away from undefeated almost halfway through a season?

Was wondering why he thinks he statpads too. He throws the ball when they tell him to.

Well...he wouldn't have the consecutive games with a TD pass record if not for stat padding. That's one example, although ultimately I don't consider Brees to be a "stat padder".

The system helps no doubt, but he has a ridiculously quick release and probably the strongest arm in the league. He throws goddamn lasers out there....I am pretty sure he could do well in any system other than some of these shitty read option abortions

lulz...because he sucked at Cal and in JC right? Must have been the systems there too.

but on an unrelated note AR sucks when playing from behind.

Meh. I wouldn't call trying to score when you're down late stat padding. Well, sometimes I'm sure it can be. I think most times it's about trying to make it look a little more respectable or even trying to score and get the ball back, as unlikely as that may be.

I do believe he is, yes.

I've seem him throw the ball 50 yards on a rope and hit his guy in stride going out of bounds.

So system QB

you're talking about the St. Louis game? Are we supposed to not try and score when down in the final minutes?

You don't have to get rustled...I mean, they were only down 17 before they scored with six seconds left. Totally reasonable to think they could come back...

Was Jerry rice a system wide receiver. Was Walter Peyton a system running back.was deion a system corner. Hell by your logic Kobe and Jordan aren't really that good they're just players who thrived under Phil's system

I can see how you would say that but I disagree. All players are a product of their system, QBs included. Do you think Manning would succeed running an offense that is read option heavy? Of course not, but a good coach doesn't force a system on his players; rather, he molds his system to fit his players.

This. The term system qb =/= bad qb. Every qb plays in a system, so therefore every qb could be called a system qb

Cassell played 15 in NE and looked great.

Cassel's year in NE is pretty overrated. He averaged about 250 ypc (If you take out the 2 games he didn't fully play) and 16 of his 21 td passes came in 5 games. Cassel is a decent QB, so it shouldn't be surprising a team that lost only 1 game the year before managed to win 11 with him the next.

Then how is it Favre and Rogers never broke Flynn's records in all those years? Were they not due for a game that great even though they ARE great?

Rodgers and Favre both have a 6 passing TD game.
