FWIW I think Flynn's and Cassel's success was largely due to other teams not preparing for them. Element of surprise, you know? As soon as teams have enough film on a player to form a game-plan, talent seems to make the difference.

Teams normally need 3-4 games on a guy.
Cassell played 15 in NE and looked great. Went to KC and looked less good.

Manning, Brees, and Rodgers. There is no argument in the last 5 years. Sorry

RTR, just like your coach, can't spot a good NFL qb can ya?

The stupid logic is saying that "system player" = "bad player".

No one is taking it that far on either side of the argument.

Labeling a great QB as a system QB is still diminishing his importance and skill.

Agreed, i think college players can be system Qb's, however NFL qbs are the system.

Matt Flynn is a mediocre QB is the better explanatation. Even mediocre QBs are capable of having a great game once in a while

Then how is it Favre and Rogers never broke Flynn's records in all those years? Were they not due for a game that great even though they ARE great?

In college. It is like a minor league coach bragging. NFL coaches laugh at little Nicky when ESPN calls him a genius

Brees wasn't elite until he had Sean Payton...isn't that a perfect example of a system qb?

Brees was elite last year....without Sean Payton

I can see how you would say that but I disagree. All players are a product of their system, QBs included. Do you think Manning would succeed running an offense that is read option heavy? Of course not, but a good coach doesn't force a system on his players; rather, he molds his system to fit his players.

The main flaw in your argument is that you're basing it on a very small sample of games that were played at the end of the season against backups.

LL012697, in 2012 Brees had 5,177 yards for a 323 yds/gm avg with 43 tds and 19 ints. If that isnt elite in your mind then you have lost it

Let me rephrase, successful NFL coaches laugh when ESPN calls little Nicky a football genius. If BAMA fans want to talk about how great their coach is in college on the SEC rant, im all for it because he is the best in college football. But dont come over to the MSB in an NFL thread and talk about him. Because he is an NFL failure
