How often would you go for it on 4th down?

What yardage would be too far to keep the offense on the field?

What say you, MSB?

I'd punt on 3rd and 12s

this type of decision is one that should be made on 1st down, not 4th down.

Knowing that you are going for it on 4th down, when you're 1st and 10, changes your playcalling.

This is why Oregon does it so often

Depends on the situation of course. But if you're just talking middle of game, 50 to my 40 would be 4th and 1 or 2. inside 40 to 30 would be 4th and 7.

Probably about 50% of the time for each.

As long as my team's not inside their own 40, I would go for it all the time on fourth down and one especially if my team has a good run-blocking offensive line. I know Saban is very aggressive going for it on fourth down and short situations and it usually works out well for him.

If i'm not mistaken, might have been couple years ago though,a high school team played on tv and they went for it every time 4 downs. Never seen anything like that before. It increases your odds of getting a first down i guess.

This question is way too specific to answer.

Some math guy did a study. He said if you had a strict policy to go for it on 4th and less than 5 yards between your own 40 and your kicker's limit (say, the defenses' 40). It will cost you one loss and gain you 3 wins.

If it's under 3 yards and I am inside my opponent's 45 yard line, I would go for it every time.
