Uh no. Also there's a difference between raw population and TV market. But yeah I haven't looked at the numbers but I'm pretty certain Los Angeles is bigger than Toronto

28th largest TV market behind Indy and ahead of Nashville. Plus in baseball you have the Angels and Dodgers very close, I would imagine the local San Diego coverage is minimal when compared with teams in the Midwest that get much larger areas LINK

There is like 14 million in LA metro, whereas Toronto is more like 6 million. Not even close.

Toronto is the 4th largest city in North America behind Mexico City, New York and LA.

LA has about 3.8 million, Toronto has 2.6. I was wrong, thought Toronto was bigger than that for some reason. Regardless, that isn't a small market.

NBA team in Kansas City. They have a world class facility waiting for a tenant in the Sprint Center and it's a great basketball town.

MLS team in St. Louis. I would especially make this move if the Rams go to L.A.

if you google are the Padres in a small market-

quote:

Yet the San Diego market is too small and too sophisticated to ensure the Padres prosperity, even as the only game in town. The Padres cannot pack Petco Park unless they win, but they are too smart to swap their superstar for three minor leaguers and proclaim they are a better team.

quote:

"We were a small market in that facility, in that era of baseball," said president and CEO Mike Dee, who during the last decade served as COO of the Red Sox. "But given the economic reform and the fact that we play at Petco Park, that's what catapults this market into a mid-market."

quote:

The San Diego Padres are attempting to operate like a mid-market franchise.

"We've sort of banned the word 'small-market,'" Peter Seidler, the Padres' lead investor, said. "We don't look at ourselves like a small market. I think it's clear now that we don't behave like a small market."

quote:

The Padres are a small market team with only a small market payroll. They can't afford to spend money like other teams do.

quote:

The club's top executives insist they are operating as a mid-market franchise or, at least, one in the making. And despite the geographical constraints of playing in San Diego, the Padres say they intend to remain in that tier.

Seems they are attempting to shed the small market label and move up to mid market

This. Blows my mind how there's not an NBA presence here. KC would be perfect.

For me, San Antonio or Kansas City.

It's really strange to me that there isn't a team in either of the Missouri cities. Cincy and Pittsburgh also don't have NBA teams. The NBA definitely went with different markets (Portland, Sacramento, Orlando, San Antonio, Memphis, OKC) than the NFL, MLB and NHL and it makes it unique.

I had pretty much read it as "not a team in NYC or LA" originally.

San Diego sounds legit, but I'd I'm rich, the one negative is a mansion in SD as a primary home is a really good way to hand a ton of money to the government. And if I have a sports team, I'm going to be like Cuban. At every game I can be at.

I would actually choose basketball, then baseball, then football. 81 games a year sounds pretty legit.

The Grizzlies owner actually lives out in San Diego. He built a full court basketball gym next to his office.

I know the Bucks group are private equity guys from NYC and they just hop on the jet for games Still I think it would be more fun if you lived where the team was

The Packers are the only bad choice in this thread because they are publicly owned.

My first choice would be the Cubs, but they do not qualify. My next pick would be the Minnesota Vikings.
