Without hesitation, Trout.

To be fair, I was wrong earlier. ZIPS has them both at 21%, but Steamer has Harper at 20.7% and Trout 22.1%. Still a pretty minor difference though.

Harper has actually been the better player this year. Obviously Trout has been better the past few years but I think it's closer than yall think. A year ago I could understand 99% taking Trout. It's much closer today

I'm not sure that he's been the better player but I 100% agree with the rest of your post.

I'm a big fan of Harper. I personally like him more than Trout because he actually has a personality. Trout comes across as one of the most boring people on the face of the earth whenever I see him interviewed. I just don't see him ever being able to draw in casual fans to watch him play. However, Trout will go down as one of the five greatest players of all-time along with Ruth, Cobb, Mays and Bonds as long as he stays healthy. I don't see Harper being on that level. He'll probably be just as good as Albert Pujols offensively but I just don't think the slight advantage he'll have offensively will be enough to make up for the massive advantages Trout has in the field and on the basepaths.

Hmm Trout who has two runner up mvp, and will end up having back to back at the end of this year playing center.

Trout is the more advanced player. He has it all. Power. Average. Speed. Fielding. And arm. It's really not close, though it can be fun to talk about.

Trout all day

What does Harper not have? There's a reason he's the most hyped position player I've seen since ARod was coming up.

Well Trout is definitely a better fielder and baserunner.

Speaking of base running, why has Trout quit stealing bases?

Maybe with Pujols behind him who is mostly power or bust, it isn't worth risking the caught stealing? I'm not really sure though, that's just a guess. Seems like he is too fast to only have ten steals.

I think he has put on a little weight and seems a bit slower than rookie Trout.

Could be. Stolen bases aren't valued like they were pre-1990, so the coaching staff might just keep him from running much.

Mike Trout. Today is a different day in baseball though. Bobby Abreu would be thought of as a top 5 offensive player in today's game.

Offensively very similar - Trout has slight edge in OPS + (adjusted OPS), hits marginally more HR, and steals more bases, but strikes out a little more. I might go with Trout because Right-handed power is harder to come by these days.

Aside from Trout being ahead of Harper in most stats.. Just on gut feeling alone I trust Trout more than Harper. And I Like Harper a lot. I just trust Trout more. He seems more level headed, less risky.

Harper has immense hitting talent and plays the game 100 mph or 110% all the time.. Which as a fan you love.. But choosing between 2 potential superstars over a 10 year course I think I prefer the guy who just seems to have "it" and seems to have a more natural feel where to pick his spots to make that highlight play or take that extra base.. Trout's a guy that even what feels like a down year he is still hitting for .300 avg. Harper is having his best season yet and he got out to a hot start.. And yet Trout is on his way now to surpass him yet again.. The stats are pretty close but Trout is starting to pull away on the homers over Harper.

The lineup protection argument is silly. Just this season Harper was 0-fer in the All-Star game while Trout won his second straight All-Star MVP. I know it's silly to use just one game for argument, but it's a testament to how well Trout shines even among the very best. Trout just seems so consistent. Whereas Harper seems like certain things bother him at times. Harper seems more prone to streaks and his swinging motion is wilder.
