The pin cost him a stroke and the rule infraction cost him two shots and he finished about three shots off the leader. I say he would have won in a playoff.

No, he's not the same guy. I'm sure it would be a bit more likely, but the idea that it "cost" him the win is dumb. If he got it today on 15, maybe.

If Rory doesn't hit too many bad shots this week, does he win?

How does that logic work? 3 strokes today is the same as Friday.

Depends if you use a similar "if......" for other players.

All we know for sure is that Tiger is almost the best player to not win a major in the past four years.

His chances would increase greatly. You take the faulty two stroke penalty away and he probably wins.

I know what you're saying but it isn't. You react differently based on your standings. The pressure of being on top, the pressure of being almost out of it, etc. Also, other players take risks and make strategic decisions based on what perceived front runners are doing.

It is like saying a blown call that prevented you from a field goal in the first quarter was the difference b/c you lost 48-45. Technically you're probably right, but a ton has happened since then, and who knows how everything would have turned out after that point.

Um, no it's not, because it is a different sport. Football decisions almost always factor in the score/time remaining. In golf, you are usually just trying to sink the ball in as few strokes as possible regardless of what your score is.

had the planes not hit the towers, they'd still be standing....

these guys hit 270+ shots over the course of a weekend... you catch good breaks, you catch bad ones... it evens out.

Do you play golf? Or even watch? Have you not noticed that some players take serious risks and other play conservatively based on weather, other players, their position, etc?
