Notre Dame gets over $15 million from NBC for just football.

According to USA Today, it's $9 million.

Well, I can see the Big 10 putting them in opposite divisions for that reason, I'd just be pissed if they did.

Every Big Ten teams gets bowl money from multiple bowls. Notre Dame gets bowl money once every few years from some lowly bowl.

Notre Dame gets $1 million from the BCS every year whether they make it or not. They get to keep every penny of that.

I think they'll join the Big East (big fish in a small pond), which could possibly bring back BCU.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is "BCU?"

Boston College University...it is a joke around the Big East that they were unwanted and only accepted by the ACC as a tag along to Miami and Virginia Tech. When Boston College was announced by the head of the ACC (Swofford or whatever), he said, "We welcome Miami, Virginia Tech, and BCU to the ACC".

I don't think money is the only issue keeping ND from joining the Big 10. Even though they may make more money by being part of a conference, there is a lot of value in being independent and playing a national schedule. I'm surprised that they've survived the last 15 years of mediocre football and that NBC has stuck with them. If Brian Kelly gets them back to elite status, they'll have absolutely no reason to join a conference because ratings will jump, they'll have more leverage in contract negotiations with NBC, and they'll start making BCS games (in which they don't have to share the revenues with anyone).
