This. The guy doesn't need to fabricate a reason for leaving. He did a very good job navigating this program through some tough sanctions and now he's ready to take on a new challenge.

Then why whine to the media like a little baby about these mysterious 'Paterno people' who have cut ties with that family quicker than anything in Football history?

If O'Brien is so confident with his work let it stand for it damn self & stop complaining about these mysterious people holding him back in Happy Valley.

I'm fully aware the man stepped into an almost win-win situation in Penn State & so is he.

Keeps them afloat ,he did a great job'. It plays out worse 'look at the cards he was dealt'.

Now continue parroting the Gospels according to O'Brien because obviously his word about the mysterious 'Paterno people' is fact.

Sounds like the University/Alumni has learned it's lesson (at least short term) about coach worship & O'Brien is a little hurt because his ego wasn't stroked enough.

It's called venting.

Nothing else in your post warrants a response, as usual.

I bet they go after someone that has Paterno ties.

No way, Paterno ties are toxic to Penn State. They need to do just like with O'Brien, find someone completely detached and hire them and give them control.

Did you actually see the way that fan base reacted when Paterno was fired? For the life of me I can't understand how you are believing that there aren't PSU supporters who want things to go back to the way they were

He didn't need this job to get a shot at a HC gig in the NFL. He took a huge risk coming here. Every single scholarship kid on that team could have walked and he could have lost 10 games a year. No one would be making excuses for him in that scenario because he would have failed to stem the exodus of players.

What's worse...me "parroting the gospel from O'Brien" or you literally making up your own counter-narrative?

You sound just like the rest of the brainwashed cult in state college and on this board that refused to believe paterno would protect a child predator on his own coaching staff

Probably because he's tired of hearing from them and about them.

So the crazy assholes chased him off. Good for O'Brien for getting out before being diddled in the shower.

Glad it's not Lovie. I am just not impressed with defensive head coaches not named Bellichek. Now maybe Wade can stay. O'Brien being under Bellichek means maybe he is neither a 3-4 or 4-3 guy. Just a coach what you have guy until it does not work. If Texans do hire him did they even talk to wade or Lovie? Rooney rule?? Hope they did so they don't hear shite about it.

*not directed at Augustine

MSB sure does have a nice way of piling on someone with a different opinion. Over 2 years past the outrage, but you still have the "I hate Paterno more than you!" idiots. I think you perpetuate just as much stupidity as the "Paterno people" that helped push BO'B away.

That being said, I am a Penn State fan, and I will continue to support the school and it's sports programs, regardless of if their football coach has ties. I want the coach to emphasize academics and hard work, and I couldn't give a crap less if there are names on the backs of jerseys.

Any coach at Alabama will draw comparisons to Bryant. Same with FSU/Bowden, OSU/Woody, Michigan/Bo. And the same with PSU and Paterno. To think otherwise is foolish. I hope the next Penn State football coach will get a fair shake from those of us who have been fans our entire lives. Some PSU fans need to grow the hell up (and I have plenty in mind), and some other college football fans need to do the same. Examples of the latter can be found in this very thread.

And why are people here taking O'Brien's word as the absolute truth? There are 2 sides to a story besides one guy bitterly complaining about these mysterious 'Paterno People'.

Because the "Paterno People" have lost the opportunity for trust through their previous actions. O'Brien, not so much.

Holy frick! Did you just pull this directly out of your arse?

You may be too stupid to continue arguing with.

You can print that I don’t really give a ---- what the ‘Paterno people’ think about what I do with this program. I’ve done everything I can to show respect to Coach Paterno. Everything in my power. So I could really care less about what the Paterno faction of people, or whatever you call them, think about what I do with the program. I’m tired of it.
Wait, I'm confused. Does he care or not???

You could leave the Head Coach job at Penn St. after ten years and they'd still consider you a short-timer.

O'Brien really was the perfect coach for them at that time. He saved that program IMO!

I agree. And I wanted him to stay. He should have the leeway to run the program as he sees fit, so long as there isn't cheating and the players are getting their education.
