How were guys like Karl Malone, Stockton, Garnett, Duncan, even Larry Bird, play 70+ games year in year out.

Yes, as they aged, they missed more games, but why are under 30 guys so much more fragile than they used to be?

Same for baseball. Why can't pitchers throw complete games?

Why was load management not an issue back then?

They just didnt have as many faked hate crimes back in those days

I dont remember players crying and having fans banned from arenas for being called Westbrick either

80/90s we’re 40/30 years ago. Almost a half century now.

Sports medicine/science has come a long way and organizations pay these guys millions upon millions. Protecting their investments make sense.

Thwy got paid badly and worked hard. They were who grew the sport and allowed these current woke crybabies to make 9 figures.

In fact if current players were really for equality they would give up half their salaries to the 70’s/80’s/90’s players still living.

Right now its just a glorified TikTok video

Correct, 90% of the time its not the players, its the coaches/ownership. Also read there are less achilles/acl tears these days in the NBA because medical staffs often force players to rest for a few games when they have tendonitis and knee pain.

I'm sure most players would willingly play through some pain, but the risk/reward isn't worth it long term.

Analytics and sports medicine have changed.

Prolonging careers and major injury avoidance is what they go for now.

Sports science advances, being able to determine when athletes are getting into the red zone with things like muscular injuries. Those dudes were also a lot tougher. Different generations.

“Load management” is just a dumb label. If teams listed a guy as “OUT-hamstring tightness” it wouldn’t seem as dumb.

Believe it or not it has nothing to do with incredibly gripping topics like “woke politics”

The average 27 year old male has 1/3rd less testosterone than the same male 30 years ago.

It's the micro plastics in the food.

The government has been experimenting with the population trying to curb violence by lowering testosterone, but we have become a much weaker nation.

Why do you think there are so many LGBTQ+IA kids now?

When is the last time you watched 1980s basketball? "Worked hard" is the last thing that would come to mind.

Today's players play 10x harder than that of the 1980s.

This is true they definitely train harder and take the game more seriously than the 80/90s guys.If we measured testosterone levels though they would have significant less.

Because the players today have more choices and knowledge.

they don't care about iron man type stuff.... its embarrassing and sucks as a fan of the game.

This goes for ALL sports, not just the NBA.

Players opt out for their own reasons, organizations opt players out if they have nothing to compete for (save their body for next season) yada yada..

Its really terrible what they do, but its how things are now so...is what it is.

so they are getting the exact opposite result of what they are going for? Todays players have shorter careers and more major injuries. Wouldn't they have changed strategies by now?

It's no conspiracy. It's AAU basically. Kids are being overworked. The body can only handle so much, no matter how tough you are.

"They're 18, 19 years old when they get to the NBA, but they're starting their careers playing 90-plus games a year that much sooner. They have more miles at a younger age and then, when they get to the NBA, they're less mature structurally and physically." - LINK

So, it's the sports medicine why they can't last all season today? You would think the opposite.

That doesn't make sense...

I'm not sure this is true. There were tons of forgotten players who tore and acl or had shoulder surgery who never played again. Also have to account for bigger talent pools now. There were many guys in the NBA decades ago with only 1 or 2 average skills who may have played for years. Now, unless you have at least 1 elite skill or multiple better than average skills you won't last in the league very long.

This is the biggest factor, IMO. Teams pay these guys so much money that they're terrified to have them get hurt and then have a dead money contract stuck on the books.
