How much do you care about NFL player safety?

The NFL pays for a lot of commercials about what they're doing to improve player safety. They run ads on new developments in helmet technology and they talk about their mental health programs. They keep changing the rules to make the game safer. Tonight there's a big game between the Bengals and Bills and the first thing they talk about is Damar Hamlin.

Maybe I'm just an a-hole, I don't know, but I just really don't give that much of a shite. These guys get compensated very well, and its partially due to the risk they have to take when they get on the field. They have access to the best doctors, and I certainly dont feel sorry for them.

I get it that the NFL wants to protect their assets and that's fine. But why do they feel the need to advertise it so much? Maybe it's just me but it's not like I'm going to quit watching because the game is too dangerous.

I don’t care if that dude’s dome goes rolling across the 20 yard line so long as I hit my three team parlay

Depends on what they are trying to eliminate.

I care about the longevity of the sport and this is the kind of shite they have to do to maintain it

I care enough that I don’t want to see players suffer severe injury

But I’m also not naive and understand that the NFL doesn’t give 1 single frick about actual player safety. They are jus t doing this in an attempt to prevent lawsuits and to prevent having to pay players who are out with injury.

If they really cared about safety, they would not be expanding the regular season or playoffs.

If they really cared about safety they would expand rosters and really crack down on PEDs

Eh, it’s an assumed risk, sure. I’m ok with that and don’t want it shoved down my throat.

On the other hand, if it is possible to make the games safer in logical ways, I’m all for it.

I have no patience for the showboating about “toughness”. I have no problem with stringent cleaning up of bad tackling for example.

They know the risks and get paid accordingly.

I watch to be entertained. Not to see grown men be babied worse than the kids in my son's little league games. I want to see these dudes knock the ever living shite out of each other.

I don’t want to see anyone get hurt. But then again, they CHOOSE to play the game. They know the risks.

I care as much as they do. If the players have their knee pads above their thighs, chin straps aren't fully fastened, and never have their mouth piece in, why should I care if they get hurt? Kids in high school mirror what they see on TV. When it looks like college and pro players are wearing shorts, it's hard to get kids to wear the equipment properly.

I don't care if they buried bodies in lime pits outside the stadium after every game. I want violence back in football. I want to see Ronnie Lott blowing WRs up over the middle. I want LT decapitating QBs. I want Zach Thomas eviscerating ballcarriers.

I don't care about player safety, and neither do you.

I think nfl does it for PR. It’s “let’s get it done and be done with it” to cover their arse. Look at Ray Rice incident. They did a bunch of pr commercials with domestic abuse, and I don’t see any decrease in the stats. Have the nfl follow up on the impact of their marketing? Nope.

If the nfl truly cared about player safety and well being there wouldn’t be Thursday games or a 17th game.

I like that they actually seem to care about spinal cord injury prevention, concussions, and defenseless players. That being said, if someone makes a great hit or tackle, then bones or joints do what they will do when that happens, it is what it is. High school coach told us dancing was a contact sport and football was a collision sport. You’re going to get hit, repeatedly.

Trial lawyers will eventually frick up football like they have with just about every other thing in America.

This is all to make sure they don’t get sued again.
