How does Josh Pastner still have a job at Memphis? 2 top recruits to transfer

Both from the 2013 class, King was a 98 rated high 4 star #42 overall player, and Powell was a 96 overall 4 star #91 overall.

Look at the talent he has brought in at Memphis (not hard to do when he took over the gig) and then look at the results.

Guy is fricking terrible.

I hate you. Your av, your sig and your sig image. I hope it rains in STL for 365 days. Your dryer breaks. And you get bad gas mileage.

Because Hal is connected and will kill you if you fire his son.

I've also wondered what his appeal was. For someone his age, experience, and relative lack of accomplishments, he is getting paid way too much.

The results aren't terrible (won over 70% of his games). He is just no longer in a conference where he has the most talented team.

That's really no great loss.

That being said, there are numerous people I know that are hoping Arizona State offers Pastner the head coaching job and that he accepts it. Sadly, it won't happen.

He won't make it pas this next year, however, unless he makes a deep run into the NCAA tournament.

Their program is in a downward spiral. They cut out their charter flights to away games... and didn't even bother to send a band or cheerleaders to the AAC tournament this year. They rented them out locally once they got there. (that's according to Chris Vernon)

Yikes.

Because he couldn't develop two top 50 players? That's really really bad coaching.

Don't forget, Pastner also lost at home to Ed Conroy. That in itself is usually enough to get you fired.

They have a great arena to play their games. I would imagine that helps recruiting.

Is his seat that hot?

He's made the NCAAT 4 out of his 6 years.

I guess he's making a shitload of money but who are they going to get to do better? I do realize there is a boatload of talent in the Memphis area as well.

30 years ago Memphis, Louisville and Houston were elite programs. Seven years ago they were a lucky three from a national title. Today they are a lot closer to Houston than they are to Louisville. Outside of a couple of horrendous coaching hires, Memphis has been a contender. They're not the kind of program that should settle for "well, at least we made the tournament a couple of years ago."

because it would cost way too much to fire him at this point. He skated by the first few years duping recruits into coming to memphis based on the reputation that Cal built. He also made it to the NCAA tourney with said recruits dominating in a shitty league. The recruits have now figured him out so he's not getting the recruits he used to. Plus, he cannot coach or develop players worth a shite. Please, please, please AZ State hire this baboon.
