Yeah the Southside is definently cramped and relocation would give UAB more of a "college" feel. Too bad it's not cost effective

This thread reminded me of an experience I had at a gas station outside of Birmingham a few years ago.

I was wearing a LSU coaches polo and a guy in a UAB shirt told me he hoped LSU "whipped UAT this year." I assumed it was some rent-a-win school on our schedule, but I eventually realized he meant University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.

Step 1: Refer to the teams as the Birmingham Blazers, not UAB. Fresno State does something similar (official name is California State-Fresno)

This is also good advice for a certain Sun Belt school...

The true UAB fans... there's only like 15 of them but they are hard core.

(on a related note, calling Alabama UAT is incorrect. The official name is The University of Alabama; not the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa)

Play a ridiculously dumbed down schedule

Lol, their schedule was easy, but they beat teams that had been beating them for years. Beat Tulsa, who had beat Tulane for like 8 years in a row. They beat ECU, Utep and ULM as well, 3 teams they lost to the year prior. Good try though.

How realistic is it to move the UAB games to the Baron's new stadium?

The common rebuttal is that the school in PA is also Lafayette, which really doesn't hold water considering there are two Miamis in FBS.

Not only that, but UAB is in the same conference that we were in this season.

Well, just to play devil's advocate, ULL DID get permission from Tulane to use the name "University of Louisiana"...as this used to be Tulane's moniker.

And being known as "The University of Louisiana" would leave behind the "directional school" albatross they're currently saddled with.

I know the Hoover Met could be converted but I don't know if Regions Field was designed that way. Hindsight is also 20/20 and a convertible stadium would have benefited everyone particularly with the current location

There's still talk of a "multi" purpose facility at the BJCC but it don't think that's what UAB needs

Yeah I guess I had always assumed people either picked Alabama or Auburn and there was nothing in between. But I guess those UAB fans are the same as ULL and LA Tech fans that despise LSU.

Oh, believe me I am well aware of that. However, after seeing the current shitstorm around the LA bit, perhaps they should have thought all of that through a bit more.

The thing is, it wouldn't. They'd be perceived about like they are now, about like La Tech is perceived, which is appropriate.

Isn't Regions Field only like 9,000 seats? IIRC, there's an NCAA regulation saying you have to have at least 20,000 or something.

Birmingham needs to stop the dome talk and just build a decent stadium. Something like LP Field, maybe even smaller. What they need to invest the serious money in is an arena. We could actually host things with an arena

But, using "University of Louisiana" is illegal per state regulations and thus ULL, or UL-L as their administration now requests, has wasted decades chasing something that will never happen.

Are they seriously still talking about this?

I remember reading the mayor's plans for a 40,000 seat dome and thinking it was an incredibly awful idea.

I haven't heard anything official, but I know Gene Hallman (the guy pretty much in charge of Birmingham sports) still wants to do it. It's never going to happen though

One Miami has nationally known athletics. Neither Lafayette does. They'd go from ULL to UL(LA).
