You can schedule a 13th game if you play @Hawaii.

I think there's some kind of obscure rule that if you play @Hawaii, you can schedule a 13th game.

ahh.. didn't know that.

Interesting. I'd love for LSU to open the season at Hawaii at some point in the future. Talk about a great road trip!

I remember BYU played 15 games one year due to that, a championship game and something else.

Probably because you lose a lot of revenue having to travel out there, and you may have to stay in a hotel longer than normal. Plus, coaches probably don't want to travel there in the middle of the season and throw off their body clocks. You can then use that extra game to schedule an extra home game, which increases revenue and provides more incentive to travel to Hawaii. IDK.

It's just like that

ETA: Actually now that I think about it, it's to provide teams an incentive to schedule games @Hawaii. Nobody would do it if they didn't have this rule.

Yep. Tulane plays at Hawaii next year and they will be playing 13 games next year.

I believe this is it, to recoup the lost revenue with an extra game.

The ESPN footage just now looked like 13 fans in the LTU stands.

Embarrassing, literally looked like a SWAC/MEAC crowd..2K on one of the sidelines tops..regardless the BS propaganda math.

And the inverse is probably also true. They probably get special treatment since every time they go on the road, its a 10 hour flight.

Seems silly to allow this for teams in their conference, though. That means half the WAC gets an extra game each year? I knew it was true for OOC teams, didn't realize it was also true for in conference.

Yes and no. Obviously, its no one's fault but the WAC's having Hawaii in the conference. But then you run into the issues of Hawaii not having a conference etc etc. I bet its just easier administratively and everything to let them have the game.

Yeah they did in 96 because of a rule that if you played during the first week of the season, it didn't count towards the number of games you could play in the regular season. Pretty stupid rule.

That would make more sense.

If Hawaii is an independent they just get 12 home games and save travel costs. Their opponents (especially in non revenue sports) use the road trip to Hawaii in their recruiting pitch and get the extra home game to make up the cost.

Can you go 6-7 and make a bowl game? Absolutely ridiculous.
