Playoff averages per 36 minutes:

LBJ - 23.6 pts, 7.2 rebs, 5.5 asts, 48% from the floor

Magic - 17.7 pts, 7.0 rebs, 11.2 asts, 50.6% from the floor

Career numbers:

LBJ - 27.5 pts, 7.2 rebs, 6.9 asts, 49.7% fromt he floor

Magic - 19.5 pts, 7.2 rebs, 11.2 asts, 52% from the field

I will never understand why Lebron fans get their panties in such a wad whenever someone says another player was better than him.

Can you point to my post where I seem so visibly upset? I'm asking a logical question which I can't understand the answer to

Bron is a scorer.... That's he he needs to do... Magic was a distributer that ran that offense....

Plius once Magic started hitting the three better than when he 1st came into the league he became even WAY more dangerous....

Hopefully this was a joke.

Magic was put on a Lakers team with outrageous talent all around him. Lebron brought a crap Cavs team to the finals. Not his fault Dan Gilbert is a terrible owner.

Magic improved as a player as his career progressed? Well, case closed. Lebron hasn't done that

To be fair here... Macig has NEVER had Aids.. He has HIV.... He had ZERO choice but to quit in the best interest of the rest of the players in the league... Was he stupid for contracting the virus??? SURE...

I think LeBron's better overall, but a better passer? Magic averaged 11.19 APG, one of only two players in NBA history to average over 10 assits/game (Stockton is the other at 10.51). Magic is possibly the greatest point guard of all time.

LeBron averages 6.88 APG, 28th all-time. Of course, he's a better scorer and their rebounding averages are the same (7.2 RPG, though that's because neither had a decline phase, and LeBron has a pace argument).

Magic was pretty f'n great. That's not digging in heels, as I do think LeBron is better, but yes, Magic was a better point guard.

Not that PER is a be-all end-all stat but:

Career PER

LBJ - 27.8

Magic - 24.1

Another advanced stat that may be useful for this discussion is ORtg (Offensive Rating) which accounts for points produced over 100 possesions:

LBJ - 116

Magic - 121

And win shares/48

LBJ - .243

Magic - .225

Yea Magic is a much better passer than LBJ and it's not close. LBJ is a better scorer, but his size etc isn't any different as a mismatch than Magic's was at his time.

And yes, when you get to the point where you are making top 5/top 10 lists, you have to go to team achievements as well. Because most, if not all, of us can agree that LBJ is at fringe top 10 all time TODAY (with plenty of time left), then team accomplishments are in the debate.

Out of curiosity, why did you list their playoff numbers in per 36 form, but regular season as per game?

If anything, I feel you should've flipped those. In the playoffs, when games are must-win, a player playing more minutes shows additional value. In the regular season, there could be a variety of legitimate reasons where a player played less minutes, and it would make sense to compare players based on per 36 minutes to make it even.
