Even if Jordan was a better player...I'd pick Magic...there was something about how he controlled a game and made average players awesome...and his attitude was the best in NBA history..."it's winning time" - from high school to college to the NBA as a rookie - the dude knew how to win.

Because he had talent around him to use his skills efficiently. If this was the playground, you better have shooters and Kareem out there for him to pass to.

The thing that makes LBJ as special as he is, is that he can do it all.

Score, pass, rebound, run the point/offense or create his own.

That's why I believe that LBJ > Magic, he can create AND distribute at will.

it was a pretty childish post that you endorsed, was it not? Pretty extreme, and you endorsed it by saying it was well said. If you believed it was well said, it isn't extreme to think that you agree with what he said

Does anyone even disagree with you that Lebron might be better than Magic besides the village idiot? The problem is that you don't want to understand that it is possible that people prefer Magic's style of play to Lebron's. Then you discount what anyone else posts claiming that they are biased yet you rise above it. You ask how can someone justify Magic>Lebron, yet say this:

quote:

I also understand that magic, up to now, has had the better career on paper

Seems like it justifies itself

Who was average that he made awesome?

Not that he didn't make players great, but the "awesome" players he played with(that I can thin of) were certainly better than average.

even though LBJ has taken over the modern NBA and has a better offensive game
So Lebron is better on offense and defense, but you'd take the player who isn't as good on both sides of the ball?

There will never be another guard like Magic - his body, his size, his mentality, his ability
Lebrons don't exactly grow on trees either.

It's a tough call.

But I look at LBJ's early career and failures and compare it to Magic who won at all levels and never stopped...and won early...playing center as a rookie because Kareem was out and dominating and winning Finals' MVP...as a point guard playing center as a rookie???

Magic was simply magic. There are some sports stars who have that it factor...Montana had it...but Magic had it more than anyone I've ever seen since 1980.

I'm not anti-Lebron. Talent-wise - maybe the best ever. But Magic was so special...mentally and attitude and rising to the occasion.

Magic made those "awesome players" except for Cap.

James Worthy owes his life to Magic. Watched all of the Lakers in the 80's - and the dude got every pass two inches from the rim.

His HOF induction speech should have been simply thanking Magic.

People overstate the talent on those Lakers teams.

Worthy, Byron Scott, Cap, Cooper, Rambis...c'mon man!

So Kareem and Worthy were average players if Magic never existed. I want to make sure i'm understanding you, is that what you're saying?

So he was an average player in your eyes? Average?

The greater issue is you're making these points about Magic kinda insinuating that Lebron hasn't done the same thing, make other players around him better.

I also tend to look at supporting cast. Magic joined a team whose best player was the GOAT center Kareem. Lebron joined a team whose best player was freaking Zydronas Ilgauskas.

Lol are you serious? You want me to accept that magic is more "clutch" than Lebron because he had an amazing game in the finals, and also one time hit a really huge shot?

Hey IF you think Bron is better than that's you... I beg to differ and EVERYTHING I have said in this thread is spot on... YOU just want to fricking argue... Get a fricking life PUNK.. You are prob a 20 something kid that can't stand someone with more sports experience that disagrees with ya... You are a DOPE..............

That's a fair point.

Kareem is the GOAT college basketball player of all-time and a giant in the NBA (Top 10).

But by the time the Lakers really got going - in mid 80's - Cap was really old and struggling.

I remember how Magic always used to have deference to him - "we can't win this without Cap dominating" - it was mind games...trying to get Kareem back into it and raise his game. Magic really kept Kareem in the game. Magic was so smart - he knew how to push people's buttons.

Magic was drafted by a team that won 47 games the previous year and made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Lebron went to a team that won less than 47 games in the 2 previous seasons combined.

You sure about that?

He averaged 18/7 on 57% shooting in 1987. That may not be the Kareem of his prime, but that 39 year old Kareem alone was better than any player Lebron had in his 1st 7 seasons.

I don't dispute that.

Like I said, it's very close.

But Magic had that specialness. LBJ is close - but I don't see that extra "it" - never have. He was bailed out by Ray Allen...and collapsed multiple times in playoff games despite being so much more physically dominate.

I think LBJ gets too much hate - but simply just opinion - he isn't on Magic's level. But I wouldn't be upset if I started a team with LBJ...I'd just take Magic over him.

If a game 7 in the NBA Finals doesn't show you the "it", you're simply not looking hard enough or you're just never going to see it, for whatever reason that may be.

Doesn't get bigger than game 7, obviously. Lebron I'm fairly certain, has been the best player in history in game 7s.

I don't do stats.

Those can mislead in hindsight.

I was there - lived it. Those 80's Lakers teams.

Magic carried Kareem - like Worthy. Magic was just so smart...he kept everyone included and feeling wanted and special. Those Lakers teams (which I lived and died with) weren't the greatest collection despite having some famous names...Magic made all those teams. It was obvious at the time.

You had to be there and watch it.
