The Canadian Football League and Canadian Football League Players' Association will introduce changes to their sport later today that will improve player safety and could have ripple effects well beyond the league.
Effectively immediately, the league will no longer allow full-contact padded practices during the season, significantly reducing the number of collisions players sustain over the course of a season.
Teams are currently allowed full-contact practices during training camp, plus an additional 17 days during the season. While contact practices will still be permitted at training camp, full-contact practices during the regular season will immediately become a thing of the past.
Football at all levels has reduced and restricted the amount of collision permitted during practices in recent years as research has pointed toward a direct correlation between the number of collisions players experience and long-term brain trauma.
No league is known to have eliminated padded full-contact practices as the CFL will today.
The CFL will also extend its regular season from 20 to 21 weeks, significantly reducing the number of short turnarounds between games, such as teams having to play three games in 11 days or four in 17 days. Teams will now have three bye weeks instead of two. The number of games each team plays will remain at 18.

I think you're right. And I also think the quality of play will continue to decline in kind.

Will probably result in more players getting injured in games.

omg their ratings are gonna suffer so much. the female sportscasters probably want tackling done away with all together. next thing you know the CFL is gonna stop playing the US National Anthem.

How about they just don't practice or play games

I'm pretty sure NFL teams don't have much contact during the season already. Just not practical.

Why would you even risk getting players hurt during the season in PRACTICE? Do you really have to practice tackling every week?
Posted on 9/13/17 at 3:44 pm to Cowboyfan89
will they continue to allow the secondary to take out receivers knees in practice?

You really do not need to go full pads in regular season. You can get enough work in hitting in shells.
It is camps that you need to hit, the lack of doubles is what has greatly eroded the quality of play in CFB (no more 2 a days on back to back days) and NFL no more doubles at all).

You need to go Thud I think at least 1 time a week. Keeps the form and allows for you to get your angles right.

CFB eliminated two a days altogether this year.
I'm so old I remember three a days.

So here is the rule from the CBA for the NFL.
Here is the article from 2011
How impactful do you think going from 1 peactice per week to 0 would be?

The league has also placed limits on the number of full-contact padded practices during the regular season. Teams are permitted a total of 14 for the year with 11 of those practices conducted during the first 11 weeks of the season (a maximum of one per week).

I was asking you. Do they have a streaming service like MLB.tv?
Posted on 9/13/17 at 6:47 pm to StrongBackWeakMind
Nhlstream.net
There is NHL.tv but you have to pay. There's a ton of free streams readily available.
