Seems like lately teams have stopped resting for 2-3 weeks before the playoff starts. Indy was notorious for this and it cost them several playoff games because they were out of rythym. Are we seeing teams trend at from this?

taking a week off after you clinch the #1 seed is a good opportunity for the team to get some more rest before the playoffs.

The Panthers haven't locked up the NFC yet, so why would they stop playing?

I kind of wondered how Carolina will handle this. Maybe the undefeated record will keep them fighting, but you'd be sick if Cam got hurt toward the end of the season. On the other hand, it seems absurd to take like three weeks off.

It cost the Colts because Tony Dungy was a notorious underachiever in the postseason. That's why the Bucs dumped him and then won the Super Bowl. Jim Caldwell got the Colts to the Super Bowl. Jim Caldwell. Jim. Freaking. Caldwell.

And when Caldwell got to the Super Bowl, he benched Peyton Manning against his will for the final game and a half. And they played the Saints, who went 13-0 and lost their last three games. And the entire starting lineup sat for the last regular season game against the Panthers.

There is anecdotal evidence on both sides. The 2011 Packers were 15-1 and gave Rodgers a rest at the end of the season, and were destroyed at home by the Giants.

I don't think there's a trend here. Different teams and coaches handle it in different ways. And the teams and coaches that can't handle it usually are habitual losers.
