UK would have thrown a monstrous fit if Louisville had been considered for the SEC.

sometimes adding revenue is what's best for the conference. And it isn't like Missouri has a bad program. They've been to the conference championship game twice. Some teams in the SEC have never been once, and had a 22 year ahead start.

A&M and it's not really close.

Yeah on the field, it hasn't been that great. But the impact (exposure and money) they've had on the SEC is tremendous.

Great football program
Elite basketball program
Very good baseball program

And their women's basketball is elite as well. They are probably the only school in the conversation of success in the big 4 (if you include baseball).

Quite impressive.

Now their administration and coaches are disgusting, but that's a different conversation.

I mean it hasn't been bad either. Plus the rest of the athletic program has done well

Conference expansion is about markets, not teams (see adding Missouri). The SEC owns the state of Kentucky, so that wouldn't happen anyway. The next teams added to the SEC will be Va/Va Tech and probably NC State.

Big 12 really screwed up not adding them

Yes, they did. The Big12 could have added Louisville and WVU and they probably could have gotten Notre Dame too.

I mean...no they arent one of the best schools in the SEC, but people act like they dont even belong in the SEC. They definitely belong and i think theyve been a good addition. That being said, LSU will never lose to them. Im convinced. We could leose every game but we are guaranteed one win a season. Its destiny.

You have to choose between:

1. A major state university with a great academic reputation and respectable but not elite sports teams, OR

2. A school that sold out all of his integrity and credibility to win big and let Papa John, Bobby Petrino, and Rick Pitino run the show.

The SEC chose wisely.

(#1 is Mizzou, not aTm--they are a different animal with the Texas market)

Well, no offense to Louisville, but they are a commuter school. Even in the state of Kentucky their support is about 90% inside Jefferson County, go anywhere else in the state and you might get another 10%.

Not sure really why that is, as posted earlier, in spite of their administration/coaches, they have an overall great athletic program, especially the last 15 years.

Without a doubt they're the best.

People picked nonsense stuff like tv markets and shite lie that. Louisville has a fantastic Athletic Department that's loaded with money. They have incredible facilities and are committed to winning in multiple sports.

They've been a grand slam home run acquisition by the ACC.

no

there was never chance in hell Notre Dame would join the Big 12 no matter DeLoss Dodds thought.

Pitino's gonna be done soon and all of the networks that got you into NYC will be severed. Duke and UNC aren't going anywhere and Virginia is back. It's going to be hard to keep winning.

When Petrino leaves, they will need another home run hire or they fall back to the middle of the pack. It already happened once with the Kragthorpe hire.

5 years from now they could have NCs in every sport if everything plays out perfectly, but they are a bad hire and/or NCAA scrutiny away from being irrelevant. And they're not a Alabama or Michigan that is such a beheamoth that it's just a matter of time before they're back.

Why not? In the fall of 2011, the Big East was collapsing, and Notre Dame needed a place to put its Olympic sports. At the very worst the Big12 could have added BYU for football only and Notre Dame for Olympic sports.

As average as ND has been over the last 20 years, they will have to join full time to the ACC at some point to maintain relevance.

maybe we should reject the idea of conferences making individual teams relevant...
