Sort of a step down huh? I'm thinking not too many tears being shed in Columbia?

Haith is a decent coach.

won 73% of his games at an average to shitty program like Mizzou and they want to run him out of town

IMHO what he inherited at Mizzou was far from shitty. And I think most would say he's underachieved the last two years there and I would agree with most.

Fair enough. My only point is that Missouri is a mediocre at best basketball program and their fans have unrealistic expectations for a program that has never achieved anything of great significance.

Haith had the best winning percentage of any Missouri coach since the 1920's and they wanted to fire him.

I think he can thank Mike Anderson for that. I would be willing to wager had he taken over at the point Anderson had, the numbers would not be that impressive.

That team his first season was loaded with Anderson talent. Haith did take them to 30-5, then lost to a 15 seed in the first round.

Then he's been leaking oil steadily since. And I saw that team come into the PMAC and those guards were big, athletic and talented. No way that was not a tournament team talent wise, yet they end up in the NIT.

Obviously he saw the handwriting on the wall and pulled a Trent. Got what he could while he could.

This. Haith is a terrible in-game coach, as shown from his Miami and Mizzou tenure. He can recruit, but he's not the guy I want calling the shots on gameday.

Not to mention the guy got away with a ton at Miami and left Larenega a pretty big mess.

This surprised me too. Mizzou to Tulsa is certainly a step down. Doesn't make Mizzou look good, that's for sure

I think initially it did, but it's pretty obvious that he was getting the hell out of town before Mizzou took care of it for him.

I'm surprised he didn't get canned when all the Miami stuff came out and he had to serve a 5 game suspension. And Mizzou was pimped coming into the SEC as one of the schools that would consistently compete for the top of the SEC. They really underperformed under Haith.

It's actually a pretty sweet deal for Mizzou. Essentially a get out of jail free card if they can capitalize.

Did Trent Johnson leaving LSU for TCU make LSU look bad?

Similar scenario.

Larranaga took a Miami team Haith was so-so with and in one year got them a 2 seed that might have made a serious run if not for a tough injury.

Haith took a consistent tournament team at Mizzou and made them an average SEC team in two years.

Smart move in my opinion. He's definitely thinking career preservation. If he goes to Tulsa for 4-5 years and makes a run he will get another shot at a bigger program. If he got run out of Mizzou he may have never gotten that shot again.

I do think he's underachieved at Mizzou, but like some posters have said it isn't like they have some historical success that is far and above what he has brought

Norm Stewart is their legendary coach, but i find it funny to look at his season outcomes and see that the disgruntled fans would not be happy with periods of his tenure as well.

Haith and Trent are both terrible coaches who will never get a better job than the one they currently have.

I wonder if Mizzou goes after Painter again. He certainly isn't as big a name now.

Haven't watched much of Haith, but i know TJ is horrible so i will take your word on it.

Painter

Don't you think Purdue has waned under his tenure?

ETA: Just looked it up, he has been solid outside of the last 2 seasons

Painter was a really strong name a few years ago. In the 2011 cycle, after Anderson left, Painter was so close to signing with Missouri. It was almost official, but at the last minute, Purdue gave him a really good raise.

Painter had been incredible up to that point and was considered a perfect hire by most fans and reporters. Since then, he's had some down seasons, and I wonder where his stock is today. Do other teams want him? If given another raise, would Purdue match it?

Ideally Missouri fans would love to see Gregg Marshall or Archie Miller as the new HC. Painter would be a step above Haith IMO. Haith was given the winningest recruiting class the school's history to coach in his first season. He has had so much talent with all of the transfers (Oriakhi, Brown, Clarkson, Ross) and hasn't done anything in the overall mediocre SEC.

Hopefully whoever gets the job will be able to hold on to the 2013-14 recruiting classes and turn this program around.

And Hatih made Missouri look bad by being there.

They both suck.
