Dual-signed Bregman and Correa card that a random guy won tonight in a Twitch breakaway opening that I was participating in.

Someone looked it up and one sold for close to $500'ish. Crazy how there's still even a market for these, but they make some badass cards now. Some that have pieces of bats, jerseys the players wore and used as well were pulled tonight.

I thought it was pretty cool seeing someone get a Honus Wagner, 1/5, bat relic card earlier in the stream

It's just a bad form of gambling. People spend $100+ on a pack nowadays. The odds of getting something worthwhile doesn't justify the risk.

I bought the card a few years ago. It just had to be in my collection. There are several other variations of that card as well. Still need the black box version.

Topps has been making sharp cards like the dual Astros card for sometime now.

You had no idea basbeall cards were still relevant but were participating in a baseball card event?

What?

Giving away a baseball card as a prize makes it a "baseball card event"?

Hypothetical for you. If someone gives away a signed Shaq shoe at a cancer fundraiser, does that make the fundraiser a "basketball shoe event"?

Too early to deal with such stupidity.

They destroyed a bat used by Honus Wagner

Autographs and relics are the only new cards really worth anything anymore. Base cards are nearly worthless. I still buy a set every year, though.

I guess I don't know what a "Twitch breakaway opening" is? I've heard of baseball card pack opening parties before and figured it was one of those.

Even if not it's clear baseball cards were a large part of whatever was going on.

I'm active in the MLB the Show (Video game) community and one of the bigger players in the community also does these 'breakaway' openings.

I didn't know what it was at first either, but it's where someone buys the boxes which like someone said, can cost more than $100 and depending on the boxes that are in the flight, like 10 people pay to get in. Those 10 people then are assigned randomly every team in the MLB and then those people can trade teams amongst themselves. Then the person doing the breakaway just opens all of the packs and whatever teams you have, you get all of the cards for those teams.

It's basically a way to open expensive packs, but somewhat on a budget with a lot of people.

Here's a screencap of the Honus card in case anyone was curious.

The current sports card market is full of manufactured short supply. It's a joke. People buy cases of cards and simply chunk the common cards looking for autographs and "relics" People will pay 500 bucks for a card that has an auto and a tiny slice of bat, when they could get an entire game used autographed bat for the same price.
