Not high scoring, but the Patriots were UNDEFEATED and though to be the best team of all time. I remember thinking at half time that it had been a great game, just for the fact that NY was in it.

It's 1 of 2 of the biggest surprises or upsets. I just didn't think it was as good a "game" as the following:

Bills/Giants
Broncos/Packers
Steelers/Cardinals
Patriots/Seahawks
Patriots/Rams

XLIV is up there. Not just for homer reasons, it had it all. Two number 1 seeds, several lead changes, balanced play calling.

I would rank XLIII as probably the best though.

My ONLY issue with this game was that at no point in this game did I feel like the Patriots were truly in jeopardy of losing that game. Lack of suspense for me hurts it in the "greatest ever" discussion.

But it was a fun game.

An underrated SB was Denver vs Green Bay.

I would hardly call Super Bowl XXXII "underrated." I remember the aftermath of that game and there were quite a few media pundits calling it the greatest Super Bowl of all-time up to that point.

As a Saints fan:

XLIV

Non-Saints:

Giants over Pats, Tyree catch game

Never have seen the Steelers-Cardinals game. Or the Pats-Eagles vomit game.

As was Seahawks/Broncos.

Pats/Seahawks
Steelers/Cardinals
Rams/Titans
Pats/Giants I (anyone remember the Brady bomb to Moss with about :15 left that missed being an 81 yard TD by about 6 inches?)

Those are the best ones I can remember watching. A good spinoff thread to this would be the best Super Bowl matchups that didn't happen, like 1998 Broncos/Vikings or 1999 Rams/Jaguars.

Packers/Raiders and Steelers/Vikings were pretty pathetic, poorly-played games too.

I guess if I named my 5 greatest, I'd go:

Giants/Bills
Steelers/Cardinals
Packers/Broncos
Giants/Patriots I
Patriots/Rams

Wrong Steelers Super Bowl

Steelers Rams was a great game with LA having a chance to win it at the end.

Because it has a close finish does not make it a great Super Bowl, as Super Bowl Colts won on FG was horrible and sloppy.

The second greatest in my humble opinion is Packers Broncos, hated both but had drama, strategy, and compelling story lines.

I don't know pre SBXX.

In no order:
Broncos/Packers
Giants/Bills
49ers/Bengals II
Rams/Titans
Pats/Panthers
Steelers/Cards
Saints/Colts
Pats/Seahawks

You can't fairly pick 1. If I had to it would be Broncos/Packers.

I wasn't around to see it but it seems like the Pit 35/Dal 31 SB always tops these lists.

I have watched every SB and the Bills - Giants was a classic. Close the whole way ,tons of strategy, Thurman Thomas was a beast. Ingrams amazing effort for the 1st down. They both left everything on the field and I am still heartbroken for Norwood....

A great football game all-around....
