Why has there only been one undefeated ever?

A number of factors go into it. The 1998 Denver Broncos had a chance when they started the season 13-0. But after they clinched their division and home field advantage, the Broncos decided to start resting their starters for fear of getting injured. 2009 Indianapolis Colts had a chance. They started 14-0 and phoned it in when they clenched everything they needed to help them in the playoffs.

And I consider the Patriots' 16-0 run to be far more impressive than the Dolphins' 14-0 run. Even though the Patriots didn't win the big game at the end of the year, they proved you could run the regular season's table in an era where parity is the league's most important objective.

Look, I'm halfway messing with you because I'm a Dolphins fan. In fact, many think the '73 team was better than the '72 team. I'm not that nuts about the debate. I wasn't alive in 1972.

But as far as your above comment, I'm calling bullshite. They came to Miami on a Monday night in week 15 and I was at that game. It was awesome. It was Marino vs. Elway and Denver rested no one. They wanted that game. Marino out-dueled him and the Dolphins won by 10.

Of course, they had a rematch in Denver in the playoffs and the Broncos won after a week of rest.

But they didn't rest shite after the 13-0 start.

The 10 points came from a FG on the first series of the Super Bowl when the offense fumbled inside their 20, and a garbage TD in the 4th when the score was 44-3.

and that '84 defense for the 49ers made Dan Marino look pedestrian in the Super Bowl.

that was the year where Marino just went off too right? The year he set the passing yardage record in a season that wasn't broken until 2011.

Under 1972 rules, the Dolphins have an advantage. Under today's no-defense rules, the 18-1 Patriots would be my choice.

72 Dolphins, or pick a Steelers team with Bradshaw at QB. Solid on offense and defense.

My vote goes to the 1989 San Francisco 49ers due to their dominating run through the playoffs that year.

The 1985 Bears had a BETTER playoff run. IMO. They were just brutal to the teams they played that year.... Plus the 1978 Steelers were very very good..........

Why are the 71 Cowboys so underrated? They are probable the most talented team of all time

They were a very good team... Destroyed a decent Dolphins team.... Underated for sure....But the 1973 Dolphins would have crushed them...........

1984 49ers only lost one game.

why don't they ever seem to get a nod?

Because the '89 team had Jerry Rice, and if it comes down to two great teams I want the one with Jerry Rice.

yeah I guess so.

but the 1994 49ers had Jerry Rice too.

so did the 1988 49ers.

their Super Bowl win in 1989 was dominate BUT Denver got killed each time they reached the Super Bowl in the 80's.

San Francisco also beat SD badly in 1994. Offensively, the 49ers were just as methodical.

I forgot that the 49ers lost to the Chiefs that year too.

course, Montana was the Chiefs QB by then.

Pre-Mel Blount rules: 1972 Dolphins
Post-Blount thru early 2000s: 1985 Bears
Current Arena League rules: who the frick cares, the 18-1 Pats, I guess

The 73 Dolphins were a better overall team than the 72 Dolphins....The 72 Dolphins were very lucky on more than one occasion....

Maybe not but Steve Young was league MVP in 94. He was amazing that year.
