According to the Post, Lonergan told one athlete he belonged in a "transgender league" and suggested that another's son would forever rely on public assistance.

One former player, according to the Post, said he needed therapy to cope after his time playing for Lonergan.

Wah wah wah cry me a damn river. This is stupid. Toughen up and don't take everything so seriously. Pussification continues.

I heard much worse shite than that from the coaches at TCU and no one complained.

Skilled coaches can instill discipline and motivate players and chew them out without tearing them apart and saying stupid stuff like this coach did.

Talking about the players kids was way over the line if that statement is true. I'm all for tough coaching but there is a difference between being a hardass and being an a-hole.

If the player wasn't already a loser he wouldn't have a kid before finishing school

My high school coach told our entire team to suck his dick in front of our principal.

In practice our center attempted a dunk and his shorts fell down. He made the entire team run suicides in our underwear until someone through up.

He was a mean was a mean SOB, but he was effective and respected. He beat up our point guards dad at a summer camp in Knoxville and nobody thought anything about. They made up and we went on to have a decent season.

terribly demanding to expect someone to either not frick everything that moves or else use one of the easily available myriad methods of birth control

At this point causing an unwanted pregnancy is like taking up smoking.

I'm torn on this issue, because I think there is a distinction between being a "tough love" coach and being a bully to kids. I know these kids are 18-21 but they are still kids at that point. I've always felt like coaches who were huge assholes were just pathetic because they are messing with kids. At the same time i believe there is a cultural acceptance that men's sports is sort of a "safe space" if you will where shite can fly that would never fly in an office environment.

I actually find the transgender league comment interesting because it seems like a progressive insult, in the past a coach would have said go play in a "fig" league, he's being oddly specific on his gender identification insults

How would it go over with Bobby Knight coaching today's Millennial kids?

I'm not saying that having a baby out of wedlock is ok. Calling someone who makes a mistake then proceeds to try to better himself by getting a higher education while taking care of a kid a loser is pretty fricked up. The kid appears to be making the best of a bad situation.

He could have easily talked about kids he has in the future...kinda like the "i hope your kids dont turn out to be an a-hole like you" but person doesnt have a kid.its a throw away saying

He sounds like a terrible human being. Congrats.

For all the wrong reasons.

I've had old school coaches that were hard asses, but taking it to this kind of level is the sign of a bad coach.
