You mean Mr. Apartheid. Player is a holier than thou POS.

quote:

Rabbit’s career as Gary Player’s caddy allowed him to travel the country and the world. Although racial tensions had cooled in the States, Rabbit faced adversity abroad. Rabbit was the first African American caddy in both the South African Open and British Open during the early 1970’s. One of his first trips abroad was to Gary Player’s home country of South Africa in 1974, during the height of the country’s apartheid. There was much opposition to his presence at both tournaments, but Gary Player stood by his side. “Gary Player was a sportsman and he figured that everybody should play sports together. Gary used his position to help promote desegregation in South Africa. In that respect he was a pioneer.” Despite the adversity Rabbit faced in his caddy career, it also provided him with great joy, unforgettable experiences and the ability to provide for his family. His first accomplishment was buying a house for his mother, and later in his career he was able to put his son through college at Princeton University. “If it wasn’t for Gary Player I wouldn’t have gotten to do all that.”

Yep, terrible person.

I "bifurcate" the rules all the time.

I refuse to hit off rocks or roots. I am not being paid to play. If David Fay and the USGA don't like it, they can KMA.

The greens are huge so they have a lot of areas to put the pin.
Actually, most of the "official" greens are much smaller than they look on TV. You can't really tell the difference between the fairway and greens with the type of grass and cut being the same. In person there are small white dots that outline the green and one of the biggest complaints has been the limited place to put pins on the severely sloped greens.

You can hit a ball dead center of the fairway and it rolls 50 yards left or right into a bunker. Same with a approach shot.
Same thing with the Open Championship yet no one complains on those links courses.

british open courses don't run out to that degree at all ...

I've said this in other threads on the subject but the course really is terrible, the greens are garbage. Player is 100% correct

Only 17 greens are garbage. I don't know why they are bitching.

Why is Gary Player such an a-hole? Just because he is an old guy who still works out?

because all the greens have the native poa growing into the fescue greens and its making it terrible to putt on

Are the unseasonably dry conditions contributing to the run-outs and many of the unfavorable rolls. I wonder if rain conditions there were per normal if we'd be seeing as many unfriendly rolls and bounces?

Gary player designed Tuscaloosa s North River Yacht Club's course and I'm not too fond of the course layout. Ok, but not as nice as Jerry Pate's municipal course Ol Colony, just a few miles away.

Otherwise, I am a Player fan and he is spot on in the OP comments.

I didn't think it could get any spare after last year's open, then, it did. I'm done paying my USGA dues.
