This thread reeks of fail.
Reports from Spring practice are glowing about GG and many are saying that Gilbert > Colt when all is said and done.

He has a bigger arm and is more physically talented, that's for sure
I'd take him over any of the freshman QBs last year other than Andrew Luck, who redshirted, in terms of long term talent and success

How many did JJ have against Alabama
That's such a stupid comparison to make. How you can even try to compare those two situations is beyond me.

Gilbert is a TEXAS QB. He'll get hype just for that.
He was a 5*, top 20 national recruit.
For those comparing his game vs Bama to JJ are comparing apples and oranges. JJ was LSU's starter for a year, the offense was built around him and he practiced all year with the #1 team. GG was the back up, the offense was designed for Colt McCoy, GG did not practice with the # 1 team all year, the WR were not used to him, he throws much harder than McCoy, he came into the game cold, against a much better D than he had ever faced. All things considered he did pretty well to get them back into the game.

Gilbert is regarded as the most talented QB UT has recruited in years, excluding Vince Young.
He would've started for a lot of BCS teams last season.

it reeks of UT envy. Had he not played in the BCS CG, the predictions for Texas would be about the same.

Gilbert played in a one game significantly...
against Bama' in the NCG. After a rusty first half, the dude brought Texas back and made it a game.
Easy throws to Shipley? I guess he was supposed to force it into coverage for a pick? The one returned at the end of the half was because Newton couldn't hold the football.
Anyway, nobody thought Colt McCoy would do anything big when it was announced he was Vince's replacement...and that turned out pretty good for Texas. They have a knack for developing top flight qbs at Texas...

2010 will probably be a transition year as the offense works in more of a power-I set and the young WRs get some experience. I can foresee 10-2 season.
I expect UT to make another title run in 2011 and/or 2012.

seems reasonable, they should still be in the running for the Big 12 and an BCS Bowl, though not the CG.

you don't think so?
Basically everyone has questions next year. If they beat OU, their schedule is very manageable

Wow, taking a guess this thread didn't turn out the way the OP intended it to.

The 2 losses I see are at Tech (Lubbock never seems to be a fun visit for the Horns) and at Nebraska. K-State's another team that always gives UT fits.

UT is definitely in the running to win the conference again. Landry Jones didn't show me much in clutch situations...and I don't know if that will change for OU next year. Their running game will also take a hit, and so will their receiving game.
On the contrary, the Horns return alot of offensive firepower.
It will be interesting to see what unfolds at Texas Tech. But aside from them, it's the same ol' South. A&M fans will think it's their year. Baylor will get a few wins here and there. And Okie State will win some they shouldn't, and lose some they should win.

I could see Okie Lite being really shitty next year with the offensive firepower they lose. Tech is always interesting. I want to hold judgement on Nebraska until I see what their defense looks like without Suh blowing up the entire line on every play
Overall, the South looks weaker than it has in past years. A&M could have a fun team to watch, but they need to find some defense

Texas Tech fans are confident that next year is their year if Tubs doesn't "screw around" too much with their offense. They already have a decent defense returning and then you add Tuberville's scheme.
Hosting Texas is a plus too.

They will have a better running game. They will have some young studs emerge at receiver. I just don't see them having too much trouble scoring...it won't be McCoy-esque, but they will still be near the top of the Big 12 in offense.

The running game could be mediocre and it would be better than last year.
And I'll believe Mack and GD give PT to the young WRs (Davis and White) when I see it. History suggests that seniors will get the lion's share of the playing time, meaning Kirkendoll and CHiles.
And if the line doesn't play better (they have no OTs I would call solid) none of it will matter.

Not only will Texas have plenty of offensive players, even if they are a little green, its also not like they'll be going up against SEC caliber defenses. The Big XII isn't exactly stacked with great defenses, and Texas will again have one of the better ones in the league which will help lead them to another great season.
