If it was some goon I'd probably think otherwise. Could be my Hawks homerism, but Seabrook isn't a dirty player. He'll hit when he needs to, but he's not going to go for the head on purpose. Backes keeps the puck and doesn't react to losing it, that's a clean hit.

I think he meant to hit him in the shoulder or chest, but the Blues player left him no other option when his skates started to come out from under him.

I think we'll see the league demonstrate what they think in the near future. IMO he was clearly going for the head and lead with the shoulder to drive through in as punishing of a fashion as possible.

IMO there was absolutely no reasonable doubt that he intended to deliver a devastating hit to the head and he took advantage of the other player not being aware enough of his surroundings to deliver that hit.

A suspension shouldn't be needed.

He will get suspended. Principle point of contact was made with the head during an illegal check (interference) actual penalty on the ice was charging but the puck was on the stick of an opposing player 5 feet or more away at the time of the hit. Its up to the person delivering the hit to be responsible for the point of contact outside of a player losing an edge etc along with making sure that the hit is delivered in a legal hockey play ( not late, not too many strides etc)

These are the hits the league wants to get rid of in the game. If this were a Blues player that delivered that hit I would expect them to be suspended and wouldn't be making excuses for that type of hockey.

It seems like all big hits wind up being perceived that way, hell, I'm guilty of it myself.

Watch in real time, there wasn't much he could have done.

Hell, try to find some slow mo gifs of marginal hits in slow motion, watch them a few times and tell me they're not dirty.

It is what it is, the good thing about hockey is the guys making the calls after the fact are hockey players. If he gets suspended (Which I expect, I'll support it.) But there wasn't ill intent, I don't think.

i think the two side angles make it pretty obvious that was a dirty hit with a high elbow/shoulder contact to the head

I was watching the game live and have seen both game speed versions and slow motion. IMO it would not have warranted a penalty if there was contact, even contact initiated with the head before the body, if he had not continued to accelerate through the impact.

The league is finally trying to get away from the hits that end careers - much like the once celebrated hit of stevens on lindros. IMO these types of hits are going to be penalized with suspensions pretty consistently.

I'm a hawks fan and it was a dirty hit. I don't believe Seabrook intended to hit him in the head but I do believe he wanted to knock his skates off his feet for putting his head down

My dad quit watching when the blues scored and he went on an anti hockey rant (he's been on the hawk bandwagon for a couple of years) but seriously, frick St Louis
