Former UFC heavyweight Tim Hague died at the age of 34 on Sunday, following a knockout loss in a boxing match Friday.

"It is with incredible sadness, sorrow and heartbreak to report that Tim has passed away today," his family said in a statement. "He was surrounded by family, listening to his favorite songs. We will miss him with so greatly. We ask for privacy during this difficult time."

fricking white people and their modern day slavery of the athletes!!!!!

On a serious note, sad and tragic. Praying for his family.

The guy probably shouldn't have even been fighting. He had been knocked out a lot before this bout.

He took a lot of head shots. And the way he fell didn't look good. But had he not died, it would have looked a normal go to sleep KO

Bet there will be a lot of "This is why MMA is a savage sport!"hot takes Until someone points out that it was a boxing event

The fight should have been stopped sooner too Hague was knocked down multiple times before the KO. I hate this because this probably could have been avoided.

I agree. Ref should have stopped it. I fast forwarded through most of it but it looked like there were 5 knock downs before the KO.

Alot of the knockdowns were him being in bad position and he got right back up, followed instructions, answered the refs questions, and kept fighting.

I think there were 4 knockdowns but one was just him touching the canvas with his gloves when he was knocked off balance.

Last Knockdown back of head hit the canvas hard though.

He never looked in bad shape until the last KO.

One of the other posters noted the back of his head hit the canvas. Sometimes the impact from the fall can be as bad as the punch. Also, it would not be the first time a boxer has died as a result of a minor blow that essentially finished the damage started in previous fights. Like any type of injury, head trauma and other internal injuries can take a long time to heal properly and occasionally never do.

RIP young man, tragic indeed.

That ref and tims cornermen need to go to trial.

Fight should have been stopped after the third knockdown in the first round.

34. Autopsy will be of interest. Internal bleeding?

Guys fight too old nowadays. The money is incredible once you have a name that draws.

You cant make silk purse from a sow's
ear. Hitting people is a "neanderthal" form of employment.

Most likely internal bleeding

I think most of his losses in mma were due to knockout and his boxing record prior to this fight was 1-2 maybe.

He's been ko'ed/tko a lot, the guy Tim fought was the number one pick in the CFL.

Fight should have been stopped once Tim appeared to do a double leg takedown

This fight made me sick, poor ref officiating and tim's cornermen didn't care about his well-being

Is there really any argument that UFC is a savage sport, regardless of this fight? There is nothing wrong with that, but to argue otherwise is dumb.
