RIP.

I was surpirsed how young he was when he retired. He was not that much older than Bowden or Paterno. Any orangeblood types know why he hung it up so early?

RIP - he had Alzheimer's and, although he was a member at my church, I haven't seen him in years outside of an occasional Christmas service. Really seemed affected by it.

The prevailing thought was that he hung it up early because he was tired of the direction that recruiting was going, especially with Switzer at OU. Who knows. I don't blame him.

It will be weird on Saturday at DKR stadium knowing that he's gone.

The UT athletic program... actually the University itself, would be a different place today if not for Mr. Royal.

RIP Coach Royal.

I had the pleasure of meeting him several times many, many years ago when he was recruiting Steve Worster from Bridge City TX who went onto UT and became an All American at UT in the late '60s.

very sad. I had always respected him as a coach and person. He and Frank Broyles were good friends.

royal had one of the great quotes when asked why he didn't like passing the ball .. "when you throw it, three things can happen .. and two of them are bad .. "

Amazing that he was 32 when he became head coach at Texas.
