That’s super sad. Played against him in high school, and he destroyed us. Great player.

This is really tragic. My kid got to play under him. Just a great guy and leaving behind a young son too.

I remember Jimmy when he was an 8th grader. He was an absolutely amazing athlete.

Damn, that’s really sad. He was the assistant AD at Episcopal over the past years, I believe.

A poster on the Rant said he had kidney cancer for several years. Another one said he thought it was colon cancer.

May he rest in peace

Whatever it was, it seems to have been kept pretty hush hush to this point.

Biggest thing I remember about him is him making a big deal about how he may have succeeded, but it was only because of the guys around him who did the less noticed they could to put him in that position.

Which, honestly, is a very humble way to handle things for a guy who literally could have done anything on the field he wanted to. He was an RB, CB, punter, and punt / kick returner at the HS level, the “athlete” recruit, and could have done whatever was asked of him.

From starting QBs and LBs to scout team linemen serving as glorified tackling dummies, he appreciated what they did. When the NFL honored all living SB players by sending them a ball to honor them, he got as many of his old teammates as possible to show up on short notice to accept it alongside him and publicly thank them for helping him get there.

For a guy who was the big man on campus in HS and college then was part of a Super Bowl team, he never forgot who he was or how he got there.

He was also a guy who got recruited heavily by Notre Dame, Florida State, Florida, and a number of other high profile programs yet chose Vandy because his parents would be able to see him play in person and a Vandy education would be worth it to him if he didn’t make it to the next level. Steve Spurrier once harangued his mother in a K&B about how no one will ever see him at Vandy, as he was LIVID that a kid he wanted passed up a team who just won a title for the butt monkey school of the SEC.

There are few pieces of shite as awful as Spurrier.

But we all love him because he has a sense of humor or something.

Dude is a quitter and a seven layer loser.

I'm pretty sure my brother Bubba coached him with the Perkins Park Eagles back in the day. Sorry to hear this!!!

He predated the proliferation of recruiting services, so I couldn’t find any confirmation.

However, I remember him being a big time recruit that had his choice of colleges. His choice of Vanderbilt was a bit of a surprise because he had a list of better football schools, but I’m guessing football was only one of many reasons he decided to attend Vandy.

"The Ole Ball coach" could go suck a dick! The Williams family made the right choice, Florida couldn't give him a world-class education like a Vandy could. May God bless Jimmy Williams and may he RIP.

At the least, he was being heavily recruited by Notre Dame (Bob Davie), Florida (Spurrier), Florida State (Bowden), and Northwestern (Gary Barnett) coming off their Rose Bowl season.

I can’t remember if he was recruited by any major baseball teams, but I thought he was also a baseball recruit

In the modern system, he would have been a 4 star athlete imo.

There is a great story about Urban Meyer calling in to Episcopal and saying Jimmy had committed when he hadn’t. His mom was so mad when she heard that she banned ND from ever coming back in. Urban a scum bag even in the odd days
