That is why I say be who you are. If you get outted who cares?

The people who don't like the fact that he is gay aren't going to care how the story comes out. They are just going to hate him because he is gay.

I think situations like this are why gay people feel it is a huge deal to come out.

What's great about the black community as a whole, is that thugs/drug dealers/murderers get more respect and love than a gay black person.

Robbie Rogers (former US soccer player and MLS player) retired a few months ago because he came out. He had last played in England.

He is only 25 or so, so I think he could come back and play in the MLS or something if he wants.

I know it's dumb, but I'm sort of disappointed that I've never heard of this guy. I don't follow basketball like I used to.

Also, if he's a free agent, is he technically in the NBA? I guess we'll do with him like we do with President Obama. He's really as much white as he is black, and yet he's considered the first black president. Doesn't really bother me, but if you are going to be precise about it....

This isn't really big news to me. We've already had retired athletes come out and say they were gay. Collins is basically retired already and if he does play next year he'll be like a 12th man. Plus he wasn't much more than a scrub his entire career anyway. Wake me when someone comes out in the prime of his career

Well, if Lebron James was gay, we'd already know about it. With the way things are, a high profile player would find it very hard to stay in the closet.

For real, now every NBA team will have to retire whatever number this guy wears and we will have to have Jason Collins day every year from here to eternity. Can't wait!

From this point on, no NBA will be allowed to wear the numbers 34,98,31,9,24,28 and 12.

I'm not reading this thread, so I apologize if already discussed. It seems as if each athlete that has come out recently is a free agent or trying to get a tryout. It is almost as if they are using their sexuality to promote themselves. Turning the traditional thinking that an openly gay athlete will be ostracized and, in a way, challenging a team to get the publicity of being the first team to accept an openly gay athlete.

May just be my cynical mind at work.

Im a staunch right winger and even I could care less, if two guys wanna bang each others brains out and take the tax breaks of married people then so be it. More women for the rest of us....don't see why this is such a big deal in this country, gay people are still people and even though they can't procreate and even though it's flat out gross and I can't imagine why women even find our hairy asses attractive........but at the end of the day they wanna be treated as equals yet expect special treatment for announcing how gay they are?
