The new poll has been released, some very surprising movement. I think the new #1 is not correct, but hey what do I know?

As always will bold the MVC and SLC teams

1 Sam Houston State (0-1) 3132 (31) 3
2 North Dakota State (0-1) 3123 (22) 1

3 Coastal Carolina (1-0) 3115 (24) 5
4 Illinois State (0-1) 3068 (20) 2
5 Jacksonville State (1-0) 3047 (24) 7
6 Villanova (0-1) 2972 (6) 4
7 Eastern Washington (0-1) 2688 (6) 6
8 Montana (1-1) 2401 (2) 13
9 South Dakota State (1-0) 2374 (8) 16
10 Chattanooga (0-1) 2040 8
11 Montana State (1-0) 1994 11
12 New Hampshire (0-1) 1864 9
13 James Madison (1-0) 1776 12
14 UNI (0-1) 1689 10
15 Liberty (1-0) 1465 15
16 Fordham (1-0) 1446 20
17 Youngstown State (0-1) 1442 14
18 Cal Poly (1-0) 1144 (1) NR
19 Eastern Kentucky (1-0) 1127 17
20 Southeastern Louisiana (1-0) 908 19
21 Indiana State (1-0) 665 21

22 Richmond (0-1) 646 18
23 Idaho State (1-0) 498 22
24 Portland State (1-0) 326 NR
25 Harvard (0-0)

Initial reactions: Sam is not the best team in FCS, Cal Poly got not much love, SDSU got some credit. The Valley took hits in its record, but it is still best out there.

Players of the week

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Chase Edmonds, Fordham, RB,

The 2014 FCS freshman of the year picked up where he left off in leading defending Patriot League champion Fordham to a 37-35 victory at FBS member Army West Point. Edmonds scored on three touchdown runs and had 266 yards from scrimmage with 126 yards on 19 carries and career highs with 140 receiving yards and six receptions. His final touchdown came on a 10-yard run with 12:04 left, breaking a 29-all tie. He totaled 65 yards in rushes and receptions on the Rams' go-ahead drive. Earlier, he had an 87-yard reception which was the week's longest in the FCS.

Mark Iannotti, Southern Illinois, QB
,

While totaling the most offensive yards in Division I - 517 - Iannotti nearly led Southern Illinois to an FBS upset of Indiana before the Salukis fell 48-47. The performance arguably was the best ever by a Salukis quarterback and he surpassed the previous school record of 443 total yards, while tying for the second-most in Missouri Valley Football Conference history. The second-year transfer from Eastern Michigan completed 24 of 31 passes for 411 yards, four touchdowns and a 231.4 rating, and he rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries. He also threw for a 2-point conversion.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Javon Hargrave, South Carolina State, DT,

One of the more dominant interior pass rushers in the FCS owned real estate in Arkansas-Pine Bluff's backfield as he helped South Carolina State to a 35-7 victory over the Golden Lions in the MEAC-SWAC Challenge. The MEAC's preseason defensive player of the year had 4 1/2 tackles for loss, 2 1/2 sacks and two quarterback hurries. He finished with seven tackles, including six solos, and earned his team's most valuable player award. A year ago, the athletic big man set the FCS single-game record with six sacks.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lance Lenoir, Western Illinois, WR,

Lenoir's overall excellence was undeniable as Western Illinois posted a 34-5 win over Eastern Illinois, which in the preseason was the first team ranked outside the STATS FCS Top 25. Lenoir set a career-high with 280 all-purpose yards, 156 of which came on punt returns (three for 51) and kickoff returns (two for 105). His 71-yard kickoff return was the longest by a Leatherneck in four years, while his 42-yard punt return matched the longest since 2009. Both big returns led to WIU touchdowns. The All-Missouri Valley wide receiver also scored a TD on one of his 10 receptions, which went for 124 yards.

FRESHMAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Case Cookus, Northern Arizona, QB,

NAU coach Jerome Souers lauds Cookus for his mobility and accuracy, but he had to like the redshirt freshman's composure and decision making in leading their Big Sky Conference team to a 34-28 road win over then-No. 25 Stephen F. Austin. Cookus, who won the starting job over two returning seniors, was 13 of 18 for 267 yards and two touchdowns - 57- and 47-yard passes. He also carried the ball 10 times for 41 yards, including a 1-yard scoring run in the third quarter.

Portland State had to be nowhere near the Top 25 before they beat Wazzu. Good job, Vikes.

That is the crazy thing, they did not even win or lose and fell out. But Montana lost at home and stayed basically the same. I get they beat NDSU but they then turned around and lost to SLO at home, granted on last second FG, but sill SLO was unranked.

Portland St will fall back to not getting votes in two weeks.

I doubt that Wazzu would make the playoffs if they were in the MVC or SLC.

Sam is good but losing to Texas Tech by 2 touchdowns while giving up 600+ yards does not deserve to be the #1 team. Might be homer thinking but SLU dropping after winning and putting up over 400 yards rushing on the team that was everyone's dark horse to make a run at the SLC title is pretty pathetic. We should be somewhere closer to 15 not 20. Will be a great year though with the possibility of NDSU not dominating everyone again.

Meh. Week 2.

Southeastern takes care of business against SFA and McNeese, they'll be where they need to be at the end of the year.

SFA losing to NAU hurt SELA I think. Also UCA losing doesn't help. The SLC has to win those games.

The SLC won't look any better after this weekend, it will be brutal for the conference.

Anyone got any feedback on Jacksonville state? Depending on the line id like to take auburn against them in their home opener.

If SLU can find a QB that can throw this year will be better than I thought. Protection needs to be better too. Didn't see the OL from Miami play. What's up with that?

He's out until October, but I'm not sure why exactly. Sucks we won't have him for Ohio.

The Redbirds should have dropped to 6 or 7. SIU should have gotten in. Coastal should be number 2 right now, they are the only team that won of the top tier I think Jax St should be 1, as they won a top 10 game on the road.

Hopefully the voters will make the poll have movement and not get stuck with same two or three teams always up top, like they moved Montana down. I think Montana would have been 1 if not losing to SLO at home.

Was gonna post how SDSU should be #1 for beating an FCS team. Then I remembered it was Kansas.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced on the eve of the season opener that an NCAA review showed shortcomings in mandated academic requirements, and at least 10 players were ruled academically ineligible. Included were six starters, all-conference junior running back Herb Walker Jr., junior wide receiver Thomas Martin, sophomore right guard Matthew Thompson, senior outside linebacker Joel Scott, junior outside linebacker Ta'Quon Jackson and junior strong safety Antonio Jefferson.

HBCU's just cant seem to get out of their own way.

quote:

Eastern Washington coach Beau Baldwin said Tuesday that the team has suspended roverback John Kreifels for Saturday's game at Northern Iowa following his ejection from the Eagles' season-opening loss against Oregon. Kreifels delivered a late hit to the head of Ducks quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. as he slid to the turf during the fourth quarter of Oregon's 61-42 win last weekend. Adams, Eastern Washington's starting quarterback for 2 1/2 seasons before he left this past offseason as a graduate transfer, left the game but later returned to the sideline. Kreifels, a redshirt sophomore, was ejected for targeting. He later taunted the Autzen Stadium crowd from the sideline before being taken to the locker room by Eagles staff members. He has since apologized on social media for his actions.

Class act out there on the red turf, I am sure he meant the apology. What hurts is they need him Saturday vs UNI

SDSU has finished the improvements to Alumni, but they wasted money because they are opening a new stadium I think next year.
