Combining fan voting with the game determining homefield advantage is even more ridiculous

Its just gonna make them look worse after they don't make the world series after their entire infield started the all-star game

I agree...
As does "every team needs a participant"

Seriously? Is Russell the worst ASG starter in any sport ever (barring an old guy who is benefitting from a great career)? He's hitting like .240 and his fielding percentage isn't even great. Like there's no part of his game that should've even landed him on the roster

I like a player from every team. Fan voting controlled by a couple teams is dumb.

And people have the audacity to say that the MLB All Star game is better than the NBA game. At least the NBA doesn't take itself too serious and keeps it light, the way an all star game should be.

There are enough spots for player from every team.
Russell's a joke, but that's a coattail vote, and he has been hyped to high heaven, well beyond his value.

Yost loading up on relief pitchers...ridiculous. Quintana, #3 on AL pitching WAR, nowhere to be found.

If this exhibition game is "for the fans" - then why get rid of fan voting?

Shouldn't the most passionate fans stuffing the ballot be rewarded? (they are going to be the few people tuning into this bore)

Makes perfect sense, you reward the fans that will actually watch the game.

(As far as deciding homefield, that's MLBs retarded fault for messing with a stupid exhibition.)

The point is this is not just an exhibition game. When they made the HFA rule, they really needed to get rid of fan voting

They should divide the vote by equal parts: 1/3 fans, 1/3 media, 1/3 players.

That way the fans get a say, but they can't do dumb shite like they do.

They made an exhibition game have a consequence. That doesn't mean it's no longer an exhibition game.

It's still a game with players from all teams in the league joking around and taking selfies.

The fact that two teams (who may or may not have 1 or 2 players in the game) make the World Series does not make it a serious contest.

+1

When a game has actual meaning, it ceases to be an exhibition game.

Well, you should inform all the other players out of the playoff race...to get all super serious and help their weekly league opponents gain a homefield advantage in the playoffs.

I mean no one knows who is going to make it and I doubt any player is thinking about that (especially the ones who have no chance) - and players get at bats like Little League (everyone gets to play, right?) - it's not remotely a real baseball game.

It's still an exhibition for the fans. MLB just went full retard to try and fool people it matters so fans of 1st place teams tune in. That's it. Fans of middle pack of last place teams don't care and players on bad teams in the All-Star game don't care about giving the Yankees or Red Sox homefield advantage.

you dont think that the entire cub infield has extra incentive to win the game?

an exhibition game that has real consequence on how the postseason plays out, ie, not an exhibition game at all

they didnt try to fool people into thinking it matters, they made it matter

and yet they do give them homefield advantage. that there makes it a real game because something comes of the game
