Scary

I guess with enough replicates eventually a freak accident will occur.

Growing up I worked as an usher in Busch Stadium. The unluckiest fan I ever saw was hit by a foul ball down the line. Medical staff came down and loaded her onto a strecher... The really unlucky part came next. While she was being carted off the next batter hit her with a second foul ball.

even if you are paying attention, sometimes that shite happens so fast it's impossible to react swiftly enough to get completely out of the way. they may need to extend the nets a bit. two nights in a row broken bats have hit people behind the dugouts.

For the record, this incident wasn't anywhere near the dugout.

How do they not have netting in front of those seats?

I've been trying to figure out where she was because I assumed she was down the line, but in the A's broadcast video you can tell it's very close to home plate and this pic looks like the same area.

I'm not familiar with MLB stadiums, but at USC's stadium that seat is definitely behind a net

This is about the same angle at The Ballpark in Arlington! Although in looking again, the netting as actually much further out that tge angle where the seat was at Fenway.. I will never refer to The Ballpark by its new corporate name.

The National Hockey League ordered safety netting installed at each end of NHL arenas after 13-year-old Brittanie Cecil was killed by a deflected puck at a Columbus Blue Jackets game in 2002. She died two days later, and her parents eventually settled with the team for $1.2 million, the league and the arena management.

That girl should have never died either.

quote:

In fact, although Brittanie had suffered a skull fracture, she walked to a first-aid station before being taken to Columbus Children's Hospital in an ambulance with her only visible injury being a gash on her forehead. At the hospital, she suffered an initial seizure and was admitted, but the next day she appeared to be recovering, both communicative and ambulatory, and without complaints of pain or dizziness. A CT-scan, however, had failed to catch a torn vertebral artery, resulting in severe clotting and swelling of the brain. On March 18, she developed a high fever and lost consciousness, she died hours later.

I'm not so sure about the Fenway Medical team. Two of them didn't even have gloves on while treating the lady.

Those angles aren't even close to being the same. And the net in Arlington looks like it extends much farther, you're right. Wth Fenway?

That Blue Jackets situation was such a weird feeling for me. We were the same age and my parents took me to a game a few days earlier as a birthday present. We practically sat in the same angle of seats as the girl, just different sides of the ice.

Did anybody else find it strange that the fans were cheering as she was being carted off the field, gushing blood and screaming?

Usually when a player gets carted off the field, fans don't clap unless the player gives a "thumbs up" sign.

I sure the fans close enough to see her agony weren't cheering. But yes, that was weird watching the video hearing the crowd cheering when you know she was in such pain/shock.

Why is it weird? Its a sign of encouragement to the injured

Not true at all

You realize the vast majority of the fans couldn't see or hear blood and screaming, right?
