Whiparound coverage is coming to the National Hockey League.

During a media conference call, ESPN unveiled “Frozen Frenzy” — an NFL RedZone-style whiparound program that will show the most exciting plays from a packed NHL slate on Oct. 24 when all 32 NHL teams will be in action, with a new game starting every 15 minutes.

On that date, ESPN will have traditional coverage of a tripleheader featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs, Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Vegas Golden Knights. “Frozen Frenzy” will start at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+ before moving over to ESPN2 at 8 p.m. ET, with coverage concluding at 11 p.m. ET.

“I’m sure everyone is familiar with RedZone, this is our version of that,” said ESPN coordinating producer Linda Schulz. “We worked all summer long to figure this out with our programming team and with the league.”

John Buccigross will play the Scott Hanson role for the production, moderating the action from ESPN’s studios. At one point during the slate, there will be 11 games going on at once.

Betting overs in a parlay just turned into a lot of fun.

Awesome idea. Is this a one time thing? Also, why is there not a RedZone for CFB?

There used to be one called ESPN Goal Line.

It was never consistently on television every week though.

Not sure why it hasn't been something they've looked into making a weekly staple. Maybe because it was ESPN only? You'd have to have something done at the NCAA level to have ALL games on it considering it's not just two networks like NFL Sundays (Fox/CBS).

NFL redzone gives you 7 hours of commercial free football, but could you imagine starting at 11 AM and not ending until after midnight with the west coast games? Would be fricking awesome

You can't show live look ins from NBC if you're ESPN.

One for CFB would be great. Especially when your team isn't playing until 7pm. Take the top 6 games and in each time slot and then slide the other games at random kick offs in as they start.

Yeah, it's something I didn't think about in my initial post.

The amount of TV networks with college games and the lack of a strong "parent" organization to negotiate probably makes a redzone type channel for college impossible.

NHL playoffs are the greatest thing in the sports world.

Over the years it has brought this non fan into being a casual regular season viewer.

But espn can do it for all the games they broadcast. I think it would be a great idea for CFB.

They've done this once on the SEC Network for baseball. I think they should do it more.

I remember that. Wasn't it on ESPNNews every Saturday from 11:00 to 6:00? But they would mostly only cut into games I could already get. So it wasn't that useful unless it was a ESPN360 game. But doesn't ESPNNews usually carry games now during that slot?
