no doubt about it, and that line isn't just fluff. I think that shite is probably cult like in New York.

Simmons was okay with his rant until he dared ESPN to do something about it. I applaud him though, maybe a 3 week vacation is just what he needs.

sorry, my definition of rant is apparently different then yours.

tone of voice and inflection apparently mean a lot more

Good. The NFL needs to be protected in it's time of weekness. They should of suspended him longer.

Yeah, I think it qualifies as a rant, even if he was calm about it.

He threatened his employers, for God's sake.

Seems like it. I think if a rant as something that goes on for much longer than that little bit that Simmons said.

Can we agree that it wasn't a tirade at least?

Simmons might have found a gap in the English language. What do you call a calm rant?

one of the key elements of a tirade or rant or harangue or tantrum or whatever the frick someone wants to call it IMO is anger or aggression

his remarks were certainly critical, maybe aggressive in substance but not tone...certainly not made with any kind of anger

I'm used to being misunderstood.

the truth of the matter, and I am criticized by my family, friends and coworkers for this, is I guess my demeanor and manner of speaking leaves my intentions or emotional level very ambiguous...but my voice isn't monotonous or anyting. That and I use words that would be described as "obscene" and I guess if you use a frick, shite, etc...it is almost automatically interpreted as angry

This story has really blown up. Last night it was being covered by news blogs like slate and vox. Today it was mentioned on both fox and MSNBC news in the morning and now it's in USA Today, NYT etc. If ESPNs aim was to prevent BS giving the ray rice issue and Specifically Goodell's handling more publicity, they failed.

I think the executives at ESPN have done the right thing. Simmons was asking for it and he got exactly what he was asking for. He could have called Goodell a liar all day long, that's not why he is suspended.

I think it was more basic than some big conspiracy to shield Goodell.

I think he challenged his bosses publicly, one very high up the food chain got super pissed and threw out a dumb punishment impulsively before he had time to cool down.

Interesting
quote:

@JimMiller: There's a civil war going on in Bristol re @BillSimmons. Suspension extension of that. Remember, his deal is up next yr. #FreeSimmons

quote:

@JimMiller: Many at @espn regard @BillSimmons as management (@Grantland33) 1st, opinion maker 2nd. Been told that added suspension time. #FreeSimmons

Nice story from the big lead
