no Willis Reed?
great call. born here, HS and college ball here, front office spot with the Hornets, NBA titles and NBA HOF.
Pistol and Eddie Robinson are the big 2 it seems. After that, seems like a dogfight for the other 2 spots.

When Josh Heupel, Brock Lesnar, and Adam Vinateri have a chance to be on your Mt. Rushmore you fail.

Willis Reed (Hico, Grambling State Jaguars) - 8th overall pick in 1964 NBA draft by NYK, 1969-70 NBA MVP, 1982 Basketball HOF inductee
IMO, but I really don't know how important each is to Louisiana.

Give me OHIO'S!!!!! One is a given.

I'd probably put it (in order):
1. Woody
2. Jack Nicklaus
3. Jesse Owens
#1's automatic. 2 and 3 are easy, as well (to me at least).
Choosing 4's tough for me. I see a lot of good candidates. Ultimately, I'd go with Cy Young. I also considered Paul Brown, Jim Brown, Oscar Robertson, Lucas, Havlicek, and Griffin. I think Lebron could take Cy's spot someday, but not yet.

#4 IS PAUL BROWN!!!!!! BTW Nice list!!!

Really the main reason I didn't put Brown is because there's already a football coach on there.

Yeah, its bad when you have one of the most clutch field goal kickers ever on there.
He's a fricking kicker. No matter how clutch he is, its a fricking kicker.

Also, you realize Brock Lesnar has done more than wrestle and that MMA is, in fact, a sport, right? The guys don't have to be dead to be nominated.
Yes. I'm a MMA fan and Lesnar was a really good wrestler in college.
I'm not saying he's not good, but he doesn't have an overall impressive body of work.
In 5-10 years if he ends up being a great MMA guy then I wouldn't have a problem with it, but at this point in his career its

That doesn't matter!! Ask ANYONE in OHIO how important Paul Brown was, and you will have your answer!!

Shaq and Pistol just played basketball here right? They didn't grow up in Louisiana did they?
I'd have to consider that before making my decsion.

Correct.
Neither was born here or went through school here.

I'd have Karl Malone and Terry Bradshaw for sure because they grew up in Louisiana.

Seriously ? Pistol Pete is only one of the most revered players in the history of the game.

correct, but they have stronger ties than many that just played college ball here.
Pistol's dad was also coach, Pistol made a name for himself at LSU, played for the New Orleans Jazz, and then lived in Louisiana after he retired. He easily qualifies.
Shaq was a mega-star at LSU, came back and graduated, was active in the community, and still comes back to BR pretty often.
Compare to Bill Russell who moved away at 7 or 8 years old and probably doesn't even remember Louisiana....or Lou Brock who is from Arkansas, played at Southern at a time when nobody at all followed college baseball, especially small school baseball. Neither of them really achieved any notoriety at all while in Louisiana, and haven't been a presence in La once they were famous. I don't think they should qualify.

I still say Ron Guidry should be on the list.
