Disney disclosed that its most profitable TV asset has 92 million subscribers, down from 95 million a year ago and down from 99 million the year before that.

In fact, as Iger acknowledged in August — a revelation that sunk the stocks of the entire industry — Disney's cable TV channels in general have been losing subscribers for two years running, presumably as consumers cord-cut or cord-shave, taking much of their viewing online with Hulu, Netflix and others.

Disney's filing says that the domestic Disney Channel and domestic Disney XD each shed 4 million subscribers in two years while ABC Family lost 5 million. Lifetime, History and A&E, each of which is 50 percent owned by Disney, are all down.

Not shocked.

I cut the cord over a year ago, and its one of the best decisions I've made.

True, now you have to do the FB account and such. Although I suppose you can make an alter on that just for commenting on stuff.

This will eventually force cable providers to offer true "a la carte" channel subscriptions and I can't fricking wait for that.

I'd also partially attribute ESPN losing so many subscribers to it's race baiting, PC agenda pushing biases.

Besides live sports ESPN is unwatchable.

You are exactly right. Their liberal agenda has pushed many away. When I watch a sports network I want sports, not SJW's preaching and pushing their agendas. Screw ESPN.

I'm thinking of switching to Sling TV myself. I've already got an outdoor antenna so I can get all the sports on CBS, NBC, and ABC that I'd want. I'm at the point now where I only want to watch the actual games.

I can still find out what the morons on ESPN have to say because there always threads on this board about them... Still!

Hope this is true. Frick BET and the rest of the channels that the profitable ones support.

Espn overpaays for all of their broadcast rights. They pay way more than they should for nfl, nba, mlb and sec. The more they pay, the more they charge cable companies, which leads to cable companies jacking up their price every year. Im glad espn is losing subscribers.

Good god. Liberal agenda my arse. I'm sure Disney wants to see democrats everywhere. ESPN has been spending shitloads of money to corner the sports market and passing it down to the consumer. They report on what's sexy like TMZ, but don't act like they are liberal SJWs.

Quit insulting my intelligence, please.

Thanks.

Besides, I quit watching that shite in 2003. I was way ahead of the curve here.

Not surprised. ESPN outside of live sports is fricking horrible. The talk shows suck. They no longer talk sports but about thing surrounding sports. Sometimes not even that. They try WAY to hard to appeal to the wrong type of people who would watch the shows.

Worse part is gameday is nothing but bullshite now. I tried to watch a few weeks ago and as soon as Desmond opened his mouth I changed thee channel.

SEC Nation is way better even with Finebaum.

And out of that 92 million, how many would pay for it on its own?
